Hey guys,
I have a Savage mark II tr with the picatinny scope rail. I have noticed that it has come loose from the gun on a couple of occasions. Is this a common problem with this rifle? I have tightened the screws and used Loctite on both occasions too. I am thinking that maybe the size and weight of this mount is just too much for the four little 6x32 screws. I will not be heart broken if the sight rail/ picatinny mount has to go but i getting sick of sighting in my rifle i just want to go shoot it not always be working on it. Thanks in advance.

If you loctite it, it should stay! What kind of loctite are you using? I used loctite before it was blue no name brand and it never worked so I bought the expensive loctite brand and never had a problem coming loose again.

First of all thanks for the reply. I used a brand new tube of loctite brand loctite. And have torqued the screws down with a propperly set torque wrench.

Did you clean any oil off the bolts and out of the receiver threads? I use an alcohol based cleaner like G96 crud buster or BC gun scrubber before using any loctite or VF-3. That was all it took to keep the EGW rail tight on my FV-SR with a heavy 30mm scope. The bolts were practically finger tight out of the box.
Hey look, my 3000th post. Huh. maybe I need to spend more time at the range :p

Yes i did clean the threads ( with LPS zero tri and methyl ethyl keytone) before i re installed the screws and loctite.

In that case I'm stumped. Clean threads, loctite and proper torque should all add up to trouble free use. Are you using blue loctite or green? Factory rail or aftermarket?

I used blue, it is a factory picatinny rail assembly. It seems too big and bulky to me but I have nothing else to compare it to. This is my first gun And i have no tactical equip experience. Thanks again

That is strange. I've never heard of that being a problem with appropriate loctite treatment.

Maybe the screws or the tapping is out of spec, then. Warranty would be my vote.

Any chance the screws are bottoming out in the holes before they snug the rail up? A lot of scope mounts come with screws that are slightly too long to work correctly without being dressed down slightly.

No the screws are not threadbound I am getting the proper torque on the screws. The rail is being held tight when I torque it. As a bit of background I am an aircraft Mechanic by trade and I have been using all of my work based tricks to try and fix this. Hence the torque wrench. I will try shooting again and see if it happens again.
Thanks for the help

This might sound a bit hokey, but I've had success with it in the past...

When I have this problem, I put the end of a cotton thread down the hole, almost to the bottom of the hole, then start the screw in. The thread gets smeared into the threads, and makes a dandy non-chemical (mechanical) thread locker. A loose thread off a pair of jeans works very well - I've never had a failure with this method, even when Locktite didn't work...it's free, too!
