Savage MK IIf

I have 3/4 inch group at 100 yards with a Savage Mark II BTV, on a not to windy day. Scope is a cheap Tasco World Class 4-16x40. BUT ammo are Winchester SuperX 40gr Round Nose plated 1300fps(comes in red plastic boxes of 100). Remington Viper, CCI minimag, Federal Target 325, Blazers are OK. Win555 and Fed525 are crap at 100 yards.

The one my MarkII prefer is by far Winchester SuperX 40gr Round Nose plated 1300fps.

Have a look at your bolt face. Mine will tend to build up some carbon after about 150 shells and the ejector hook and the other little hook that hold the shell in place on the bolt sometimes get a little gummed up and won't grab the rim of the cartridge. A quick brushing with an old toothbrush and its gtg again.

I think the issue is actually magazine-related; it almost always happens on the last round. I keep on meaning to try polishing up the feed lips a little, but haven't got around to it yet.

Regular vs. Bull barrel in a Mark II.

I would like to know if there is any appreciable diference in accuracy between the basic savage mk2 and the more expensive heavy barrel models with better stocks.I like the look of the thumbhole laminate models-but do they shoot any better?

I too would like to know this as I'm interested in a bolt-action 22 and have heard good things about the Savage Mark II's.

Cheers,

MarkT
