Can’t seem to find any definitive answer on how they compare… in .22lr

Both have a very similar 16 inch bull barrel. Every review I see on the Ruger talks about how everything feels as there is a more quality feeling to it, but accuracy is not mentioned very often.

On the contrary, everybody seems to talk about the accuracy of the Savage FV-SR, but everything else about that rifle seems very cheap…

Anybody here has them both? Or tried them both at least?

I don't have either but had considered them when I got my B22 Sav. Funny you say that about Rugers, that's what I had read also. I chose to go with the Savage B22 FV and the accuracy is Way above the Ruger out-of-the-box. The advantage of the B22 is that it uses Savage rotary mags that give the flush fit and it's finish is better than the MKII for just a bit more $$. Mine is shooting in the 1/2" - 3/4" @ 50 outdoors with a Covenant 6-24x50-30mm. It comes with 21" heavy-barrel and SR is available.
BTW I also got the A22 and tho it seems accurate the trigger is about 3# with lotsa creep and a rough release. Not on my 'fave' list but good plinking stuff.

My MK2 shoots very well. I can usually do under 1.5 moa. Often close to moa. It feels cheep. The plastic stock is the main culprit. The wooden stock version feel much better. I have the heavy barreled model.

The extractor is a weakness and acts up with wax lubricated ammo. Mine loves CCI SV and it's a wax type. I have done the double spring fix and it's been reliable since. I polished the snot out of the action and trigger and its reasonably smooth.

I have shot a few rounds from a friend's Ruger. It feels better in the hands. The finish is nicer. I can't comment on it's accuracy.

I would include the CZ in my reaserch as well.

Good luck.

I have a Mark II FV, A22f (in Boyd’s stock), and a CZ 457 Canadian.

At a 100 yard the Mark II is consistently the best shooting SK rifle match. The CZ is CLOSE but have yet to find a ammo it really likes. So far it seems happiest with CCI SV but gets the odd flyer screwing up the groups average.

My A22 is promising if I can do my part but the scop I have on it is atrociously bad for the 100 yards as the retical is HUGE. Have a new scope on order for the Mark II and it’s current scope will migrate to the A22.

Presently all my 100yard shooting is done with 4-12 bushnells. Really need to bring my calipers from work sometime tk get accurate measurements. But groups are all in the 1-2” area on average.

Have had a few under an inch with the mark II but usually #### it up eventually lol.

I have two MK2 FV-SR, one in the plastic stock which is very light and handy and one in the Boyd's Tacticol wooden stock, which is very much not light and handy. It is quite heavy but works well on the bench

So there's a trade off between the two and each have their merits and I enjoy them both.

I’ve owned both. I preferred the ruger. Accuracy wasn’t vastly different with CCI minimags (had them for small game hunting) but the ruger is the nicer feeling rifle with iron sights and a superior magazine.

Accuracy is a word that means different things to different people. If you’re looking to compete in PRS style matches these are not the rifles you should be looking it. If you want something that you can make headshots on bush chickens with, either will be great at it.

Wether it's a brand new 700$ CZ or 125$ 40+ year old Cooey, it seems like all rimfires shoot to ~1.5-2moa with run of the mill ammo (barring any damages or issues etc). The price then dictates build quality and ego. Check out the 100 yard challenge for instance - Jerry outshot people with a 2000$ rifle using his 197$ Scorpio.

Can YOU shoot better than 1moa/the rifle? Are you going to feed it bulls CCI or precision Rimfire rounds for twice the price? Do you shoot for fun or competition?

I’ve got a Savage Mk2 FV-SR. I would not buy again. Get off your wallet and buy a CZ.

I was looking at some old photos of my FV-SR, trying to remember when I had it. It's a gun I really wanted to like, in spite of the garbage stock they come equipped with. When I had it, I don't believe I was buying ammo better than CCI SV, LR HP, Federal Gold Medal Target, etc. Nothing that broke the $10/50 mark, or at least that's what I remember. With ammo of that grade, I found the gun to really be lacking in the accuracy dept. I've been tempted by the new Savage B22 FV-SR, as the stock is far better..but I haven't done any digging on that gun.

Ruger precision rifle, Ruger American, etc. I've shot the centerfire versions of both of these, and held/cycled a couple of their recent production rimfire bolt guns. I think I'd suggest the OP handle/cycle something like a CZ before committing.

As well as the B22-FV I have a CZ455-Lux-SS with the Bavarian-style stock. I also have the Cov-6-24x50-30mm on this and with SK+ ammo I can't really tell which gun I've shot w/o my notes. So I don't mix them on the same target (usually). Either one will regularly shoot ca. 3/4" or less at 50 and under 2" at 100. I'm just starting to do the 100 so not used a lot of good ammo to spend on it.
The B22 I've had for 2+ years and I'm very satisfied with it. I only bought the CZ 'cause it looked nice - walnut and SS. The CZ455-Lux-SS costs about Twice (ca. $800) what the B22 does, still a few at Sponsors out West.

That's an odd observation, as before they raised the price limits the Savage mark 2 was by a landslide the MOST shot rifle in CRPS production class... But sure, now with the higher price limit if you want to stay in production class for some reason the T1X or 457 should be your choice... My Mark 2 is in a chassis so it wouldn't have ever been in 'production class anyway.

I have had 2x FV-SRs and both have shot great with Center-X or SK Match... At one point at the same time I had a CZ 455 canadian, Norinco NS522, Anschutz MS 64, Savage mark 2 and Ruger 10/22... shot them all and the only 2 that didn't get sold were the Anschutz (but it's a single shot) and the Savage... Maybe I just got lucky with the 2x I had.

My savage fvsr shoots very well but I never tried it in the factory stock. It went straight into a mdt chassis. I set it up for hunting and it wears a 1-4x20 optic with a center dot so not great for small groups but perfect for the squirrel sniping I use it for

I prefer the savage over the Ruger but I've really been looking into cz and ansultz 22 mag though
