I recently ordered a Savage MkII - BV. It hasn't arrived yet and I was wondering about the quality of the scope bases it comes with. Are they decent or should I start shopping around for better ones?

They're typical Weaver-style crappy aluminum bases. Ugly as hell but quite functional. I just got one of these a few weeks ago and was impressed by the high level of fit and finish that you get for the money. The bases are probably the worst part of the rifle. I will definitely upgrade the bases if I find some better ones, preferably steel.

I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised when your gun arrives.

I've been using the factory bases that came with my savage for years. Added a set of Weaver rings and I haven't had a hitch with them in all that time. These worked so well, I really never considered replacing them.

Bases are ok, maybe a tad soft for really hard steel rings. Ugly but functional and I've had no issues with mine.

For rings, my favourite remains the Burris Signature Zee's with 0-MOA inserts.
