Hey Guys,

Recently picked up a new Savage MKII TR in .22lr and last night I noticed that the bottom of the bolt had two holes punched/broken through in the guide slots...

Sorry for the large picture,

This gun is literally brand new and unfired, I've simply cycled the bolt here and there to help smooth out the action but everyone I came across suggest this is completely common and people simply ignore it and use the gun as they claim it does not effect anything. But my concern is it getting worse over time ?

Regardless... anyone here encountered this before ? Do I just ignore it or send the gun back ?

Thats there from when it was manufactured, don't worry about it. It's just the relief intersecting with the hole that the striker resides in. Nothing runs along that surface and it will not get any bigger or catch on anything.

Thanks guys... I got confirmation through the shop I purchased from after the spoke with a Savage Rep and stated they are described as pressure-relief holes designed to allow internal stresses to be spent without cracking the bolt itself.

I was just initially concerned since it wasn't like that when I first got it and I naturally assumed if it should be like that then shouldn't it be done neater and from the factory vs chipping away on its own over time.
