Hi All,

Just curious if a Savage MKII stock will fit a MKI FVT. I tried to order a stock from the boyds site but there was no option for a MKI

Cheers!
Ron

Well, the Mk. II stock is going to have a hole for the mag well that a Mk. I stock wouldn't. Other than that, I'm curious too. Have you tried contacting Savage?

The stock will not fit and the bottom metal and safety locations will not line up... also, be careful even if it is a MKII stock, there are stocks for the "E-Receiver" version and the "Pre-E" version. All guns manufactured after July 2009 are "E-Receiver" rifles.

Hi friend. Can you explain the difference without getting too technical? I bought my MKII in 2010... so I guess I have an E Version?

Yes... you have an E-Receiver... Savage changed the receiver mounting dimensions from the Pre-E to the newer E-receiver... sonthe action screw spacing is different as is the bottom metal.

Anybody know if you can put the old Lakefield MK2 in the Savage MK2 stock?

Pretty certain the "pre E" (tuition free learning thnx Hoyt) is identical to the Lakefield MkII. The Mk I is an identical shape to the Mk II. As pointed out the stock will come cut for a magazine. I've seen Mk I receivers smooth, D&T for magazine well, and D&T w/magazine well cutout but no hole in stock-all clearly stamped as MkI. These actions can be fitted to the newer style stocks according to this: (C n' P from boydsgunstocks.com)

ATTENTION CUSTOMERS: This stock is designed for the Sav93-E/MKII heavy barrel with inlet trigger guard and floor plate. Action measures 7 3/4" long on the 93E/MKII action. Pre-93E receivers (with a lug at the back of the reciever) can be fit to our 93E/MKII stocks but will require fitting of your receiver and barrel to the stock. Minor gAMERICAN PLAINSMAN will be visible on rear of stock with older pre-accutrigger actions. Older receivers are about 4 inches longer and will need to be fit. Variations in action mounting screw pillars exist between models. Do not over tighten.

All plastic stocks, and some laminate and hardwood stocks will require you to purchase a different trigger guard and floor plate. Please see "Gun Parts" on the LEFT hand side of the page to purchase these parts.

Some stocks may also require different action screws which are available through DiProductsInc: PN 13020. All finished parts have been CNC inlet to Boyds' House Action. Variations may exist from firearm to firearm, minor fitting may be required to get that perfect fit to your firearm.

It's not a straight drop in, the bottom metal doesn't match, the mounting bolts are different and the MK II is missing the front bolt, I welded a small nut to the head of one of the small bolts that hold the magazine guide so I had an extra bolt, and even the inletting is a bit different.

You can drop it in, but you won't have the front action bolt and you'll have to order bottom metal from DIP or rather a canadian distributor as they won't ship across the border.

here's mine in an SS evolution

Been thinkin' (kinda dangerous) You could cut your own bottom metal as just a blank with no magazine hole at all...not the ugliest solution.

I cut them out of aluminum for mine with just some basic tools and file work, there's not much to them and it didn't take long to file it for the magazine.

Idle thought if you want a single shot - since Savage barely charges any more for a Mk. II than a Mk. I, could you glue the magazine follower in place and just use that as your single shot loading platform? Granted, you won't get the smooth stock bottom like with a Mk I with the magazine and the magazine catch protruding.
