Hello,

I'm interested in "building" a .22lr "sniper" rifle for my son. I know..."a .22lr sniper rifle?" :p
Intended use is for indoor/outdoor range plinking paper targets @ 25 & 100yrds (because thats how the outdoor range have spaced their target stands)
Anyone have any experience with one? Did the search thing on this site but came up empty. Found some positive feedback on the net.

What would you guys suggest for a scope that would fit the application for both looks and function?

And last but not least....where can I get one?

Thanks for your help!

These are nice rifles. The scope rails need to be replaced with a one piece canted one though.

If you want real sniper feel and function, the Falcon Menace 4-14FFP mil/mil is the scope I would recommend.

Thanks for the heads up on the scope rails.
I have the Falcon Menance 4-14EMD and really like it but considered it too much scope for the MKII TR? May have to re-evalute.....

I have the 93R17 TRR (the same rifle in .17HMR with a triple pic rail mount).

I like mine. I scoped it with a bushnell mildot that is 5-24x.

Nope! Its perfect for long range .22LR shooting. If it makes you feel better, I run the Menace on my 10/22 and a Premier Heritage 3-15x50 on my Quad.

I got mine from Ellwood Epps, but they don't appear to have any in stock.

You could try wolverine supplies.

Another route

I have the .17 tr and I loved it. I bought another stock from boyds, and picked up a regular Mk II and swapped the stocks. It saved me about $100. The other poster is right about getting a rail as you will need it to go with a full sized scope. I have a 4-15 banner with a mil dot retical and it is working well.

Boyds has some good deals on Ruger 10/22 stocks right now. All you have to do is keep watching.

I've got a MKII TR in .22lr that I ordered from Ellwood Epps in the spring. Took approx 2 months as they were still wanting on Savage to ship the first batch into Canada etc... But it was defiantly worth the wait.

I've been using it for punching paper as well as shooting silhouettes freehand at 75 & 100 yards and its been fantastic. 5 shot groups @ 25 yards are .250'' and 50 yards their .500''. Out at 100 yards I manage between 1.375'' - 1.500'' using CCI Blazer.

Scope wise, I have a Bushnell Elite 4200 8-32x40 mounted in Burris Signature Zee High Rings which is really nice as it allows me to clearly see those tiny .22 holes @ 100 yards.

Quality of the Rifle/Action/Bolt/Stock is very impressive for the money. Action is noticeably stiff when you first get it but quickly starts to loosen up. Trigger is also very nice as your able to feel the spring load up as you slowly squeeze the trigger but the whole time it remains smooth.
