The old thread on the savage's smokeless line was investigating the blow-ups that 'rarely' happened to these. Has anyone heard anything more? They are fairly popular and still sell very well. I've been considering one, and was curious on other points of view.

I just bought one 3 days ago. I searched quite a bit on them, did not find anything conclusive against them. I found lots of hearsay stories, " I had a buddy that...". I never found any "smoking gun" excuse the pun. I would think that if these guns were blowing up, some nice young lawyer would be trying to protect the innocent public from them by lining his pockets with Savage's money.

I just got back from the range with my Savage ML 2 and its a really good shooting gun.
With only 43 grs of powder per load a can of IMR 4759 will last you years. The gun also loves the 250 and 300 XTP's which are dirt cheap.

The whole blow up deal was ole Toby Bridges trying to get back at Savage after they fired his butt. Apparently the gun was blown to high hell but Bridges didn't even have a scratch, many believe he rigged it to blow.

The gun fires a 250 gr XTP around 2300 fps, has no messy black powder to clean and has the legendary Savage accuracy. (stocks really suck though)
I can't wait to take it out in the field.

Cheers!!

It was the same guy who had over 7500 rounds thru it and admitted to exceeded charges of smokeless for test purposes..... Put 5 extra grains of smokeless powder in your centerfire beyond max charge and see what happens.

I just bought one after studying the gun for several months.S/S over Black Synthetic.
Shoots like a Hi-Power Rifle,,NO SMOKE-you see the hit and target reaction ! Accurate too !
Use it ,wipe it down and put it away.Just like your Hi-Power.
I will sure miss that nightly gun cleaning !! ( LOL )
Sad that the reputation of this fine product and concept had to be damaged by a vendictive ex-employee ...
Believe me Guys, this is one fine M/L !!

I am really leaning toward a Savage, more so than a TC. That "no cleaning" is great...but I do love the big smoke.

So many decisions......

smoke & bang or NO smoke & bang"That is the question",
I too looked at the Savage when looking to upgrade my ml,I went for the T/C Encore barrel versatility just because.

Hi,

The Smokeless Savage 10-mlII is my best muzzleloader.

Glad to see this thread, I have been looking for info on these guns for a while. Nice to see someone that actually owns one, not all this ï know a guy who"####, I have a stainless omega, black synthetic stock. I am not sure why but I love ML's. Extra long season maybe , not sure but I think I will upgrade to the savage, not to impressed with the omega.
