Any insight is welcomed. Are these a decent rifle?Looking for a 250yd max rifle in .308.Is this gun a reasonable approach? Was looking for a bolt in this caliber but I think this will not happen.I have a preference for wood over synthetic ....so.....this is the reason for the question. Thanks fellas,You have answered my questions before.(cow tag has arrived and need to up it a bit from the 30.30);););)

Either a .300 Savage or .308 Win will fit the bill. any I've ever owned shot MOA or less with handloads.I prefer the rotary mag over the clip models..........JMO....Harold

i've had one since 1970 or so and it's ALWAYS in my scabbard- like it was said, shoots at least minute of angel provided you BUILD YOUR LOADS and TAKE THE TIME to make it shoot properly- mine prefers the 180 grain slugs to anything else- won't grp with 150s , -and don't go any heavier-and it's a magazine model- that allows me to switch loads if need be

I bought one a few months ago in .300 Savage and it's a great rifle. One for the "keeper" section of the safe. I thought it might be a bit cumbersome since i was used to a Marlin 336 but it fits my hands well and also balances well. It's accurate and light too. What more could i ask for?

Great Rifles!! I had one in the late 70's that for some stupid reason I traded for something. I have since fixed this by buying a 99F in 300 sav. Groups 1" to 1 1/2" with 165 gr bullets. I feel I'm good to go for anything I hunt out to 250 yds.

I have two now; one in .250 Savage and one in .30-30. The .250 goes with me almost everywhere. I used to have a C model in .308, but I finally let it go because I just love that .250. The 99 is my favourite rifle, and it will serve you well.

Erik.

If you handload for a .300 Savage 99.... 150gr/42gr Win748.............165gr/41gr Win 748 + 180gr/40gr Win 748.............all shot sub MOA groups..............Harold

I have a Savage 99F in .300 Savage - I used 180 Grain factory for a while then reloaded some 150 grains - takes a Deer right off it's feet on the run - light and accurate

I have two right now. A 99C and a 99F in .308

The C has the removable 4 round magazine and the F is the built in rotary mag. The C is my main hunting rifle and eventually, I'll buy another and get rid of the F since a removable magazine loads and unloads quicker, easier and safer. I have 3 spare mag's and if I should use all 4 bullets in the first one, I can reload a LOT faster than the built in rotary can.

I bagged my first bull moose with my 99C last November. A beautiful 200+ yard spine shot. The previous November, I shot my first elk with a nice 500 yard double lung shot. I've bagged numerous deer at ranges from 75 to 350 yards.

I shoot regularly all summer long at distances up to 500 yards so I'm VERY comfy up to and including 500 yards.

I doubt I'll ever use any other rifle for hunting. I love my Savage lever actions!

Savage 99

I have one Savage 99....

It's a 99F in .308 Win..... pre-million serial number... topped with a Leupold 2-7x33mm...........
