Howdy folks:
Does anyone have any experience with this rifle?
If you do, what are your impressions.
Does the Savage muzzle brake function like Brownings BOSS?
How restrictive is the magazine well where the cartridges OAL is concerned?

Thanks Guys/Gals.

Savage has the longest internal dimension in a short action - almost 3"

Muzzle brakes is "ok" and can be shut off which is "ok". Non adjustable so not like a BOSS

Accustock is "ok" but needs to be bedded

bolt release is "ok"
smooth barrel nut is "ok"
cocking indicator is "ok"

A Savage to attract a Rem shooter.....so that is 'ok'

would I buy one.... NO

Thanks Jerry:
Sounds OK.:D
Now at least I have two choices for a 6.5mm long range rig: either a
Tikka Varmint, or a Savage M-11 LRH. Although the Savage is a little too
new to have much in the way of end user (non-gun writer) reviews yet.
It should be interesting to see how Savage compares to the Tikka - I'm
hoping favorably, just for the sake of competition between manufacturers.

The basic bits and pieces have been around for a while so there are no surprises.

A Savage in an accustock will usually shoot sub MOA. The best I have seen was around 1/2 min average. but bedding will really help it along

The best Savages I have shot hovered in the high 2's and low 3's BUT that is a rare beast indeed.

a tikka might edge that accuracy a bit and can do so with little to no work.

Unfortunately, the luck of the barrel has a greater effect on your end results then the bits that are bolted on.

I have a Savage LRPV that I am quite happy with. However, it is a single shot, target action, and a heavy barrel. I suspect the bolt is the same design, and the AccuTrigger will be similar, but not likely adjustable down to the 7 oz. where mine is set. Here are the first three groups out of it, after I bedded it.

Savage build quality seems very good.

I know its an old thread but I thought I would add my experience. I have a savage long range hunter in 6.5x284. Any load I have tried will go under 1" at 100 yrds.I have some 100 gr sierra loads that will go under .400 for 5 shots. 129 gr hornady soft points into .500. I have just started to run some 130 scirrocos into .600 and 130 tsx the same. I don't have a longer range with a bench but on a recent trip I found a 375 yrd area that was easy to hit a pop can consistently with the scirrocs. I have this rifle primarily for hunting on the large cutblocks left behind from the pine beetle here in bc. It has a ziesse conquest 6x24 on it. So far its a great accurate hunting rifle. Recoil is near zero with the brake on. You can easily see the bullet strike. Brake off recoil is still very mild. If I get a chance to shoot a bit further I will post results.

Sounds very impressive. Pretty good groups with those low end Hornady Interlocks, you've gotta like that. I would definitely be interested in your
results at longer ranges.
Later.
