Savage model 11VT .308 recommendations **posted in wrong forum before**

Hey guys,
Christmas morning i was lucky enough to open up a savage model 11VT 24'' heavy barrel chambered in .308! My girlfriend has known that i wanted to get my feet wet with some long range shooting so this was her gift to me. Originally i was going to buy a model 12 on boxing day but now i have this. Does anyone have any feedback regarding this rifle? I will be replacing the stock with a boyds stock first and a scope after. the factory bushnell 4-12 doesn't look that bad but its not a BDC reticle. Any suggestions or input would be much appreciated.
 
Shoot it before buying a bunch of aftermarket accessories. It will probably shoot good, but occasionally there is a factory dud out there.

Good call,i just thought the stock was of poor quality and figured it wouldn't hurt to change it out right away.
