Hi all , I just picked up a Savage model 12 synthetic varmit stainless with a beefy fluted barrel in .308. Just wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiances with one ,and have any advise on upgrades. I paid 720$. thanx Chris.

It's a decent choice. I've had one before. It was very accurate. In my opinion, without putting a ton of money into a savage, I would upgrade the bolt handle if it's the tear drop. I never liked it. A knurled handle from glades or similar is a nice upgrade. A stock (b&c, HS Precision, chassis, etc), if you can get a deal on the ee, would offer value for your money.
Nothing wrong with savage. But if you put too much $$ into your rifle you won't recoup it. If its a keeper, check out the 10tr thread and see what those guys are doing to their rifles.
Savage makes a pretty accurate factory barrel. Should be good to go.

Hi I have a model 12 LPV in 243, great accurate shooter right out of the box , set it up with Ken Farrel rail and base and topped it off with Steiner 3X12X56 . Not a light gun, but if you are just sitting calling coyotes in its great. Have been told by some of our bench rest shooters out at the club I belong to that you can not go wrong with a Savage. So far no bad experiences, action is excellent, barrel accurate, fit finish great

Awsome, Im new to presision shooting,my Tikka friend seems to think his poop dont stink, so Im planning on a shoot off to shut him up.The rail I have is 20 moa weaver and a Leo 4-12 vx1 up top.Good for a couple hundred yards with tight groups?

I had a model 12 in .223, it shot real well with the right ammo but I think to get the most out of it with that caliber you have to reload, which I don't, so I sold it.
