Sounds to me like you're considering a hunting rifle when you want to do target shooting. You'll be limited with this gun when the barrel starts heating up and accuracy drops off. Maybe like 1 shot per minute or something.
In that price bracket or for a little more, there are better choices. Mind you, I'm not a target shooter, but if I were, I'd be looking for a heavy barrel gun, probably in .223. That way I could tap into cheaper ammo. The stainless is not really necessary for your application, so you can likely get more value if you include blued guns in your search. Also, I'm sure you probably realize that you may want premium optics and a spotting scope to go with the gun.
You might as well decide going in how much you want to put into it.
Can you spell out exactly what your criteria is: normal and max range, gun and scope budget, desired accuracy, handloaded or factory ammo, etc.?
