How hard is it to get one of these now? Its the 20g/.22LR combo gun that I MUST have. Looks to be a great grouse and backpacking gun as you can take it down no tools needed, store shells in the stock(some models) and is just an all around great gun. I would sell my soul for one:)
 
They don't make them anymore. Watch the EE diligently and regularly trawl the websites of any online dealers you can find. Good luck.

Well, just one now... I just sold the C, the 22 mag is left. I see Gagnon sports in Oshawa has one listed for $500. Seems a bit steep, but I guess it's cheaper than your soul. Maybe.

BTW, I really dig my C.
 
I would not buy a Savage 24 with the cast steel barrel band and integral front sight. I had a 24C so equipped, the shotgun barrel was so badly regulated that it would shoot almost 3 FEET low at normal shooting distance of 30 yards or so. I had to make a home made barrel band, but it was a bubba fix since a proper solution would cost more than the gun was worth. I later owned a 24 with a soldered spacer and ramp front sight, it was better, but still not regulated correctly. I gave up on them.
 
OH=h, so both models were junk? This is the first time I have heard anything negative about them so kinda shocking lol
 
I wouldn't mind hearing more feedback from guys who have them, too. I bought one in 22LR/20ga for around $500 from a dealer in Quebec. The price was higher than most because it came with a nicer stock than the average grade and is in mint condition.

The only time I've had a chance to play with it was out at the range in Hinton last summer. I'm not satisfied that I've shot with it enough to really know anything (only for about 30 minutes on one occasion and much of that time was spent walking back and forth from the target). However, my experience was that the 20 ga barrel was deadly accurate; the .22 barrel, not so much.

Like I said, I need to give it a fair trial before making any pronouncements, but that's my experience so far.

You could bore out the barrel band an bit and shim it or drill and tap a couple of set screws for fine adjustment I suppose.
 
I have never done anything like that, is it hard to do? I don't/didn't think of this gun as a tac driver....just a good bush gun tho throw on the ATV, take camping and out for grouse.
 
i have a 30-30/20 right now, picked up a .22 mag/20 for a buddy, used to have a .222/20. never should have sold either of them. same buddy has the cute little .22/20 (think its called a camper), and i know he won't part with it. not an expert on them, but from what i've seen, they are good guns. mine isn't very regulated either, but for me its a matter of figuring where both barrels shoot and living with it. but i really like em, so i'm willing to forgive em. and let's see some pics of your soul
 
There are some combination guns (used) on the website of T E C Trade Ex Canada - see their link at the top of the page, they are a site sponsor. I haven't dealt with them myself but many members speak well of them. They bring in a lot of used hunting guns from Europe, but you'll recognise at least some of the names - Brno, CZ, Tikka, Valmet.
 
I got a 24C for my 10th birthday and will never part with it. I found it heavy as kid but still managed to get a few grouse and woodchucks with it. Fit and finish is lacking (early 80's model) but it is what it is. Here in BC it's legal to hunt deer with a 20 gauge as long as you use 1 buck or larger OR slugs. It's still a goal to get a coastal blacktail with this gun. As others have stated the barrels aren't regulated very well according to my few tests - I must try with different brands of slugs to see if things get better. I found a forum "Savage24" that has more info for model 24 fans. On that forum a guy had fabricated a rear sight that incorparated 2 folding leaf sights, 1 for the rifle barrel and one for the shotgun barrel. I think this would be the trick if regulating the barrels wasn't working.

I had a 30-30/20ga, 222/20ga and now just have a .22mag/20ga and a .22lr/.410. Love them all.

I've got guns worth thousands of dollars a piece and everytime I'm in the gun room choosing a rifle to take hunting one of the 24's always come along. As far as I'm concerned, the Savage 24's are the most versatile hunting guns ever made, and I have put a lot of meat on the table and in the freezer with these guns.
 
I have two Savage .22/20 gauges. One is full size and one is the compact camper model with ammo storage in the butt. Both are well regulated and are very handy. I always take one to moose camp. The older models have the barrel selector on the side, the newer ones on the hammer. The selector on the hammer is quicker and less prone to mechanical failure.

Baikal makes combo guns, but I don't like them as they have no hammer. You must oped and close the action - for cocking and shooting the second barrel.

I would hold out for a Savage. They are scarce but do come up for sale periodically.
 
I bought a 30-30/20 gauge of a guy on EE and I love it. It is the fixed front sight with the unregulated band as described earlier and it shoots just fine. I painted the front sight with flourescent paint as I can"t see as well as I used to. I haven't taken a deer with it yet but I did wing shoot a nice sharptail grouse 2 weeks ago. The shotgun barrel is just fine and the 30-30 seemed to shoot well at the range.
