I have a 340 in 22 hornet that my dad left me. I am all set up to reload it, and I think it would be a neat gun to shoot. I have nearly no experience with it at all, and I was wondering if anyone knows if these rifles shoot well or not. I was considering refinishing the stock, bedding the action and maybe clean up the trigger a little. I wouldn't want to spend alot of time working on it if it is inheritantly an inaccurate rifle. Anyone with experience with one, I would love to hear about it. A friend of mine who can make stocks told me he would help/teach/guide me to build a stock for it, I think it would be a good experience. One thing I don't like however is the off-set scopemount (Weaver?) I haven't seen any other type for it, and the bolt handle barely clears the scope when opening/closing the bolt. Thanks for any help:D

Nice little utilitarian guns.Figure a 10gr reload will give you 700 shots per lb of powder!Powders that are best include Win 296,H-110.IMR 4227+ lil-gun.The side mount is as good as it gets.Great round for trapping ie: shooting beaver.I shot coyotes with mine and the bullets never exited.Good for 150-175 yards or so.If your gun is a 340 it should be standard .224" bullets. Mine was a .223 in both Savage and an older Sako.I wouldn't spend much $$$$ on it just use it and enjoy.......................Harold
