Savage Model 39 30-30

I just bought an old Savage Model 39 in 30-30 cal. It's a break action single shot and I'm told barrels were interchangeable. I checked the Gun Trader's Guide and could find no mention of this model. I've never seen or heard of one before. Does any one here know anything about them? It's in fairly rough shape but seems to function OK. I would like to know something of the history and reputation of this rifle. Are extra shotgun or rifle barrels available anywhere?
 
These are wonderful little rifles! I prefer their barreled action to most other break actions out there. They are classy, slender, simple, rugged, and very nice looking. At one time you could get this model with a shotgun barrel included, but aftermarket barrels have never been available. If it still in good shape, you may want to get it re-finished, and re-barreled, and enjoy it for what it is.

On much closer examination, there is a faint number 1 between the 2 & the 9. 219 it is! Now I've found it in Gun Trader's Guide. I've never seen one before. It is a nice light gun and has nice lines. I will be trying it out next trip to the range. It's not in great shape appearance wise, but everything is tight and seems to function well. Thanks for the help.
 
I recently spent a few weeks looking for one, then ended up pulling the trigger on a regular pre-64 1894 instead. The 219's look good for my needs. I love single shots. They don't seem to come up for sale often. My book only lists the 220 (single shotgun version)
 
There where actually 2 different models; the 219, and the 219L. The 219 had a top lever (this is the very classy one), and the 219L had a side lever. They where chambered in 22 hornet, 25-20, 32-20, and 30-30. There was also the 221 with 12g, and 30-30 bbl, the 222 with 16g bbl, and 223 with 20g bbl. finally there was the 227 in 22 hornet with a 12g bbl, 228 with a 16g bbl, and 229 with a 20g bbl. As I alluded to earlier, there are no spare barrels, and I doubt this will happen, as production was from 1938 to 1965. Still very nice guns though, and if one is in rough shape, but the bore is still good, it may be something that you want to put some TLC into.

There was also a .22 smoothbore 219 and a 9mm 219 but they are very rare and I've never seen either of them in Canada. Still looking for a 32-20 for my set.
 
I've got one in a .22 Hornet. I flipped my Grandpa for it, double or nothing. Good thing I won or it would have cost me 30 $.
Awesome gun; seems to point on it's own. Mine had a broken ejector. It seems that it's ejector can index itself off to one side or the other while closing. I think that's how mine got damaged. I found that when the day is over if you insert a fired cartridge before closing it it keeps it from indexing to the side. Also allows the gun to be dry-fired without...well...dry firing it on an empty chamber I suppose.
If you want to get rid of it I'd contemplate buying it if the price were right.

The 28 ga barrels are pretty hard to find, luckily I've tripped over two of them now. Also have a 16 ga barrel and in the 219 set I've got the 30-30, 22 Hornet and the 25-20, would really like to find a 32-20 just to even out the set.
