I thought its only in cal.22 hornet, but on S.I.R`s website,it says Choose from the popular 22 Hornet and 223 Rem calibers to handle every varmint shooting scenario. also if I want it for coyotes and gophers, is it a good buy? thanks

Savage ran into production problems. Odds are the action wouldn't handle the higher pressure. They threatened to fix it but have not seen any 223 M40 in two years. Me thinks the chances are zero in 2007 as there is still no updates on their site.

Wait until after the SHOT show in Feb. If there are any new models, they will be announced then. If it does go into production as a 223, think late 2007/2008 before any make it up here. I think the demand in the US will be enormous.

I think they did actually exists but were pulled because the action was not really up to it, I not even sure the 223 hit the street. I have personally not even seen one even in hornet.

22 hornet is a neat round, quiet, but has limited performance, though within 125-150 yards has decent killing power. I have a handi in 22 hornet and I really like it. One thing about a hornet is that factory rounds are expensive.

I really wanted a model 40 Hornet a year or so ago. Nobody could get one in, so I ended up with the Ruger 77/22 hornet laminate instead. A few months ago, I did see a model 40 in the store. After holding it and looking at it, I'm glad i decided on the Ruger in the end. Plus, my biggest concern with Ruger was reports of poor accuracy. Mine shoots superbly, so that concern was alleviated. Plus, I think the 'target gray' finish in the ruger is ###ier than the shiny deep blue on the '40

Originally it was introduced in both calibers, but like Mystic said, the action wasnt reliable in handling the pressures of the 223 round...
(Im assuming Savage Lawyers, not the actual equipment)

thanks guys, I just called the S.I.R they siad they don`t have any M40 in stock, I`m thinking to buy a savege 12 BVSS in .223 or .308

I read a review on the Model 40 in .22 Hornet on Gunblast and it printed a pretty good group with factory ammo. I must admit, the rifle does look a lot nice in person then in pictures on the internet. But there is something about the barrel with it being sleeved, it looks like there rimfire barrels, its just not too appealing in my mind. I really wish savage would make their Low Profile chambered in .22 Hornet.

i have a model 40, not too bad, still working up loads for it. the group at gunblast was good, but i did even better with winchester factory ammo. still i have not yet happened upon the perfect load for it

How would you compare it against higher end Hornet rifles? Is it a good bang for you buck?

What do you have on it scope wise?

not bad, i havent' done a great deal of shooting yet, but my best four shot group is .65" with 3 clustering under .25"

i would say the cz is probably the way to go if you do not mind spending the coin. the savage is a good value for 425.00 no doubt about it.

I am wanting to get the Ruger #1 in Hornet when I finally make the purchase. I would love the CZ if they were single shot with a heavy barrel.
