Has anyone tried one of these guns? How are they for accuracy? I see them at WSS for under $500 and they have the accutrigger.
I think I'm interested in one but only if they shoot. I know they're in 22 Hornet which isn't inherently accurate. But they do intrigue me.
Opinion please.

It's a beautiful rifle. Target style stock, looks and feels like a million bucks IMO. I have a friend with one, and he loves it. It's accurate, I can't tell you group sizes b/c I don't know. It is a single shot though. If you want a step up in power from a 22mag, then it's great. If you want more, then get a mod 11 in 223 or whatever. I beleive the nice target/varmint line with laminate stock are very similar.

the pair I've handled were rough, and felt like a giant cooey.

I spent the extra $ on a CZ in .22 Hornet was glad I did.

isn't inherently accurate? thats funny, mine prints 5 round groups in the .75" to .50" range @ 100yrds....

I seen one fall apart this summer, for real.

Not sure what the problem was but the guy that was shooting it becide me only had the lugs left on the bolt head whn he extracted his shell, at a very low shell count. It just fell apart, never blew up.

I liked the look of teh gun and i think it shot well, just kind of turned me off the 40 from there on. May be one in a million chance of that happening again, as I have never had an issue the big brothers.

Giant Cooey LOL
I like that
Thanks that's a good one I'm still chuckling.

But he's right. The model 40 is a stretched version of their rimfire rifle. If I recall, it's locking lug is still behind the bolt handle too. When the rifle first came out it was offered in .223 as well but that didn't last too long because of it's high pressures. In fact I don't know if a single .223 rifle made it to the consumers hands. Go to their website and compare the MKII .22 rifle and the Model 40's pictures. I also agree, buy a CZ with the set trigger and you'll be happy forever. :)

Re CZ

I'm not familiar with the CZ. What models are available and who's the dealer with the best price and selection?

Rear locking lugs? Sounds like an old schmidt rubin 7.5 x 55 I used to own. Yikes

hello stovepipe! so, you like my hornet eh? :D

first off, i will say a couple of things about my hornet. like the guy with the cz, my rifle prints both winchester and remington factory ammo and most handloads in .50-.75."

the savage is no slouch in the accuracy department, so don't let snobbery rule out the savage. my best group was with 45 grain hornady bullets. sp. 1.750 col 13 gr lil gun. 3 shots= .236

winchester factory ammo, 3 shots under .25"

another group which was ok is this one, 11.8 gr 296, 35 vmax, 1.725 col
4= .690.

i will be interested to see how tnt's perform, as they are my fave bullet in my cz 22 mag rimfire. at this juncture, my savage seems to have a preference for 45 gr bullets, but i have not played extensively with 40 grain bullets yet, nor the tnt bullet by speer.

i had extraction issues with my savage, but this was solved by doubling up the extractor clips. personally, i love the cz rifles, but am satisfied with the savage as well. the rifle is nice and heavy which i like when shooting offhand, nice and steady. i realise the centerfire cz's probably feel different, but the rimfire , euro- models i've often felt were "whippy."

for a suped-up cooey, mine shoots pretty well i'd say :stirthepot2:

here's a review of the mod 40:
