Hey guys, I'm new here
Got a few questions here and there.

I don't see many posting or anything regarding the Savage 64...
Personal experience is that it shoots a pretty tight group at 50 meters (.4-.5 size)

Does anyone know where I could find a larger mag, more then just 10 rds, like the 10/22

or perhaps a mag loader?

loading the mag always end up with dirty lead filled fingers... :p lol

I just sold mine... I hated the fact that there isn't any aftermarket mags for it.

It would jam on cheap ammo

So I got a ruger 10/22

Wow, really?
so far I've only been using the AE brand 22LR... (not sure if this is classified as cheap ammo... it is inexpensive to my liking)
$25/500rds - seems cheap to me when compared with my M-14 $40/20rds

As for the mag... yeah, I've tried looking everywhere for aftermarket mag but none found...

any news regarding a .22 mag loader? anything like Butler Creek or Shooters Ridge or anything like the sort?

I've only heard of .22 magazine loaders for the 10/22 and the Ruger and Browning .22 pistols.....:yingyang:

As for larger magazines , they continue to elude us....:(

Trust me, i've looked everywhere for my cooey 64 (same as the savage 64) and so far there is a big no for: 1. Larger cap mags. 2. any aftermarket stocks. 3. speed loaders. Prettymuch what you buy it stock that is how it stays.

I had a Lakefield 64B, same gun. Ate all kinds of ammo without a hitch. Back 25 years ago you could buy the gun $99.00 and spare 10 round mags $10 each at Canadian Tire. Ahhhh the good old days.

"...10 round mags $10 each..." $20 each, at Epp's, these days. There is no aftermarket stuff for 'em though.
Bought my Cooey, while drunk, from Crappy Tire, when I was 17. Came with 2 steel mags, then.
"...would jam on cheap ammo..." That's unusual. They won't always shoot every brand well, but they usually cycle anything. Even target velocity stuff. You still have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo a particular rifle shoots best. Especially if you use hyper-velocity ammo. Mine likes Yellow Jackets. Doesn't shoot Stingrs or Expeditors well though.

with 64's aftermarket is so bad I even had crazy idea to start manufacturing components on my own. Considering how many of them around I thought it is a good idea. As to your original question - there are no hi-cap magazines. And with the accuracy of your 64 I think you are just lucky, some of those I handled were shooting 4-5" at 50.

Savage magazines can be bought directly from savage for cheaper than from any store.
I got 2 Mark II magazines for $32 shipped. 64 magazines should be roughly the same.

Savage 64B has different magazine than MarkII. And I bought a couple 10-round magazines for my 64B for 20$ a piece, from some outdoor outfitters store.

well with the shooting range in Chilliwack, everything is pretty fenced off and the level of the wind is next to nothing.

the grouping out at 50 meter is very tight by using a few sandbags
and at 25m the shots are almost always touching each other.

Not bad of a rifle so far.

yeah, after reading a few responses here and there, I went out there and got myself a Ruger 10/22 deal from Frontier Firearms, it's already on its way.

My girlfriend loves to shoot the 64 because it has a scope on it. haha, a tiny little Tasco 3x scope lol

Hopefully when the Ruger arrive, I could do a side by side comparison.

The Savage 64 could shoot the nutsacks from a raccoon off at 50 yards. Most accurate out of the box semi I own. But, no magazines above 10 rounds. That's why I take my 10/22's to the range more.

yeah, I just got my brand new 10/22
slapped on a 6x scope, we'll see how it shoots out of box at 50

But i concur with Slithery, the 64 shoots a nice .4-.6 out of box at 50

Hopefully the 10/22 will deliver the same performance as the 64 (if not, it should for its price)
