Can anyone tell anything about this model? My dad has one with what looks like a muzzle brake and a "poly-choke" on it. It also has a Williams peep sight on the receiver. It was my grandfather's shotgun and Dad and I have used it for everything from grouse to bear. I like the shotgun, but I just don't know anything about it.

These old shotguns were built by Savage during the late '50's into the '60's. they were built to be economy grade shotguns (as with most Savage shotguns) but were well designed and durable. Most likely the choke device is a Savage "Super Choke". Performs much like a poly choke. These guns were made when cheap did not mean poor qaulity. Most have walnut stocks and are constructed of steel. Late ones will have pot metal trigger guards and assemblies. (like the Remington 870) Parts are getting to be hard to find but are still around. They were made in 12 16 and 20 gauges. Not as smooth as a Winchester model 12 but they cost half as much in the day. Hope this helps.
