Does anyone here own one of these? Looking for information on reliability, approx. cost, etc.

Looking at buying one, but would like some neutral info first.

Thanks,

J

I have one but without peep sights. It's a great rifle one of my favourites.Shoots real nice and functions flawlessly.Great looking rifle as well.

I have a circa 64 model 99F in 300 savage. With the right loads (RL15 and 165 hornadys) it shoots an honest 1.5" groups all day long at 100 yds. This is my second model F and really enjoy it and you should enjoy yours too.

Well I haven't bought it yet - going out to test shoot it in a couple of days. I don't think there's any sub-class to it. It just says Model 99 and has a rotary style mag under the chamber. I guess it can let you know how many you have left in the mag somehow. It also has a small compass built into the top of the stock. It's a neat looking rifle for sure.

Well - The older models were D+T'd for a peep, with no provision for a scope. Newer ones were D+T'd for a scope, but no peep. Many "gunsmiths" have tried to D+T the older ones for a scope, and did a very poor job - and detracted from the value of an otherwise modestly collectible rifle.

99 savage peep sight

I have a redfield , and lyman receiver sight and a lyman peep that mounts
where the rear scope mount goes it really boils down to your eye sight
both the Brit Can and US ww1 RIFLES had peeps that work for most eyes
where barrel sights are a problem for far sighted eyes and get worse with age
lyman 57 go between !00-140 Redfield 100-160 and 57B $50- 75
the three different sights sit in three different positions on the receiver
the lyman 57 in the middle
if you have any other questions I will tell you what I have found
Buckeye
ps you can't beat a99 Savage

sav 99

have one which inherited a few years ago. it has a lymam aperture sight havent shot at a paper target latley but i think it would shot about 2in groups. I have been shooting 180gr cast bullets in it last time i had it to the range shooting at 8in gong at 100yds no problem hitting it. I know a few people who have these and find them very reliable.

I recently purchased a 99F,.300 Savage manufactured in 1959 with a Williams peepsight installed.I have only fired Remington factory 150 gr loads so far.It will shoot "2 groups with no problem.I just picked up a set of dies and will start loading for this gun in the new year. Bac4
