This week I was fortunate to receive a Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage as a gift. The rifle hasnt been fired in probably 20 years and is in good shape.
I have looked at the various Savage collector web sites and cant pinpoint the model and date. The one site that you input the serial # says 1950. I am looking for some input from the Savage 99 collectors on this site.
The rifle has a 24 in barrel, on the left side .300 Savage, top side Savage Model 99 and left side Hi Pressure Steel Proof Tested. The serial # is 55254X. The wood is maybe walnut and is checkered. The forearm has the schnoble shape. The stock has been swapped to a straight grip with different wood. It also came with the original checkered pistol grip stock with a metal butt plate. Inside the pistol grip stock the serial number and the letters T Y are stamped. Unfortunately I dont have a digital camera to put up pics.
Thanks for any input on model and date.
