I have not shot one or even seen one, but I did make a monster front sight for a TR model for someone else. For the price, you can't go wrong. Add about $400-$500 for a top of the line set of iron sights, iris' front and back and you are into the TR game for less then $1600. Or if the 6.5-.284 tickles your fancy add a scope and mounts and you will have a first rate F(O) class rifle for less then $2000.

Steve, you're right on the ball & the same goes for any of the ''LE'' models, none are anywhere to be found.

The Savage Factory is in Lakefield Ontario. How does the export ban apply, not trying to be an ass, just confused.

I think that they do the Rim fires in Canada and the Centre fires in the US.
Could be wrong though, it has been known to happen.

I'm close enough to the Buffalo (New York) Gun Center that I would waltz across the boarder and buy one. Six to eight weeks later I would be rubbing it in here that I gots one...............

The Savage importers & exporters have probably let their permits expire by accident and it takes some months to get a new one approved. U.S. Dept of State will only issue an export permit if the Canadian importer first gets an International Import Permit from our Foreign Affairs office in Ottawa. Ottawa takes about two weeks to issue the import permit but the Dept of State can then take an additional three months or more to issue the export permits. The U.S. permits usually expire in less than a year and you must go through the whole process again. It's a paper nightmare - a procedure from hell.

The Canadian plant in Lakefield produces all the Savage rimfire rifles. The U.S. plant all the centrefire rifles.

been multiple screw-ups by Savage in the US with their export permits this year. what is on the market right now is all we are likely to see for a while.

I have seen them,handled them and know someone who owns one.As far as I know only two have made it to Canada so far.They are both around Winnipeg somewhere,and if the owner of one of them ever getsa scope on it Iwill be doing load developement for him.

ps. Buffalo Gun Center is a good place, they will actually drive with you to the border, so you won't need transport licence in US, and they'll fill in the declaration and so on
