I just saw a Savage No4 that is stamped US Property but also has the LB symbol stamped into the left side of the receiver wall.
Not the word Longbranch, just the L with the B inside. There is a C in the serial number. How common is this?

not uncommon, when savage stopped producing enfields, all the parts they had went to longbranch to be finished or used in rifles. it could have been a finished receiver, or maybe barreled and then it got sent north

42C would probably be 1943 production.
Don't know why a LB mark would be on a receiver in this time period.

I just received a similar one, I think. Flaming bomb, S No.4 Mk 1* on left receiver wall, with "US PROPERTY" along top left rail, Serial no. 62C8###. Immediately below the serial number (on the wrist) is what appears to be the capital letter "B". I see that some reference show a stamp "B" refers to BSA, and since there is the BNP stamp on top of receiver ring, this one had been to England, I presume. I am not real certain how to distinguish a "B" for BSA from the combined LB for Long Branch.

Sorry, it's not an "LB", it is merely a "B" as found on all Savage No4 rifles.
