Does anyone know how to adjust the trigger on a savage package rifle ?
looks like a wire with a small set screw at the end.
Or if not what aftermarket would be a good choice to install

thanks Cdn1

Congrats, you have a great platform of which many a tinkerer can enjoy their handywork with.

I have used several Timneys and the are dead easy to install if you have the basic skills. So I would lead you there. Rifle basix is basically the same for the standard version, but are harder to find readily.

Suggest you Google your idea and you will come up with a myriad of suggestions.

You can do a basic tension adjust on the trigger you have now, but be sure to have tension on the spring when done. There is a little set screw you can adjust with an allen wrench where the spring sits in to make an adjustment. Then #### the gun fast, (unloaded of course), smack the gun down on the floor butt first, and hit the sides with the palm of your hand. If the firing pin falls during any of this you need more tension on that spring. I also have reduced the pull by replacing the spring with another spring like material, just less stout. Piano wire is one out there in google land. I used an old 3" pin from the darning needle box (shhhh, my wife dosn't know) and fashoned it exactly to the angles from the factory part. Installed and had success with much lighter pull. Others suggest stoning the trigger but remember, this metal part has a very hard surface to begin with, and stoning will bring you down to parent metal which is softer (=wear faster and lead to inconsistencies). The stock trigger will smoothen out with use over time. You will also find some suggestons on how to make this trigger a set trigger. Be careful with this one, however, I have made it work flawlessly and is takes some tinkering. Always, always, always keep your rifle unloaded and pointed in a safe direction when ever tinkering.

Good luck, a great package for the price and you will be shooting bug holes in no time.
