Savage or a Sako?

Its blasphemy to compare a Savage to a Sako 75 ;) Just pick the two up at your local shop and bet you`ll keep the Sako in your hand.
The Sako will outshoot the Savage and it better when you pay $1300 vs $500 for a Savage.

Cheers!!

My buddy was at a gunshop last night and handled both a Savage and a Tikka. He told me that the Tikka had a very smooth action while the Savage was rough and cycled very poorly. He told me if he does buy one or the other it will be the Tikka without a doubt.

I've handled the Savage, Tikka, Sako and Kimber bolt rifles. For me a hunting rifle is one that is going to get abused. Yes the Sako and Kimber fit very well but at roughly double the price, I'm wondering if the additional cost is actually good value. Honestly I was ready to buy the Sako until a buddy of mine (and others) were raving about the Savages. I refuse to buy another Remington. I bought an LTR in the spring and haven't seen it since sending it out for warranty work. Hasn't even fired a shot.

Is the customer service at Sako good or bad?

I've never sent a Sako back. They did go through a recall with some of the Finnlight models. I'm told in Canada, the process went smoothly, but it the states it was a bit of a mess.

What was the issue with the Remington?

There was a section near the end of the barrel which lacked oxide finish and the plug screws for the scope mount - two of them broke when trying to remove. I opened the box, looked at the blemish, tried to remove the plug screws (with a lyman screwdriver) and got pissed off when I found out I couldn't return it to Remington and had to bring it to an "authorized" repair centre. I sent it to the "authorized" gunsmith in May 2005 (only the second day I owned it) - and I haven't seen it since. The smith is telling me there's a bit of a problem with getting "black oxide" across the border. I'm not impressed.

This was my second and last Remington. I will never buy another - my decision is based purely on their lack of proper customer service here in Canada.

A friend of mine had an issue with his Savage - they had him return it to them and even paid for his shipping - no problems. Savage has sold me on their level of service.

Now does anyone have any experience with Sako service?

Savage or Sako, that is the question...

No doubt in my mind. After having many different rifles and working on many more different one over the last 40 years, I still do not own a Savage nor do I intend to. Between Savage and Sako there is no choice in my mind - Sako all the way.

They are both great guns and I would trust the Sako is the better of the two. The money saved on the Savage would buy you a couple of different barrels. I am sure though that the Sako has a higher "Nice gun mister Garrison" factor.

I like both sako and tikkas and have a number of cartridges in both and some the same, with almost identical accuracy out of the box.
The T-3s are one of the best bang for the buck hunting rifles on the maket and down the road after the line has changed i bet they will be sought over. However saying this the sako 75 is a wonderful rifle and craftsmenship better in every way. If you have the $$ buy sako if you need a leupold for it but a T-3 and your price will add up to the 75s bottom line.

Savage well They shoot good! well some of them. LOL I own a couple of levers and sold my FP . For me its like driving a smart car or a Denali. I will take my chances in the Denali but fear for my life in the smart car. Not bashing any gun maker here just my piont.

Ah, I think I smell an experiment coming on. What says someone with a savage and someone with a sako, in the same calibre, take the EXACT same factory ammunition and put 3 or so rounds on to a piece of paper and see what happens. Perhaps a few different people could try this. I would be curious about the outcome. Seeing as I have savage and a buddy has the sako stainless, both in 300 win mag.

Could I join this "test" with my Tikka M695 in 300WinMag? I bought it a couple of months ago and haven't shot it, yet!
