Well, here's the .223 Savage 12FVSS project so far:

Bought the bbl'd action last year off the board.
Just rec'd the Farrell base from ATR, and put a Nikon 4.5-14 side focus mildot on top, held by TPS rings. The Butler Creek flip caps off of my Elite 10x 3200 fit perfectly, which was a little bonus.

Thinking about having Rick at ATR chemically blacken the stainless steel when he has enough guns to do a batch.

The home-made BR stock is semi ok, but not really what I want, so a Boyd's vented target/varmint is on the way, to see how that feels. After that, it will be bigger bucks for a stock if I'm still not happy.

Hey, BUM, is the base on the right way? :p

Popcan nice rig. How do you like the Nikon I am looking hard at one for my long range stick. Especialy the turrets are the clicks crisp and easy to see settings?

The clicks are very positive and easy to hear and feel... I have not tested the accuracy in terms of return to zero etc. yet. You should be able to see the markings in my pics...

I might think about the Nikon 6-18 version as well, which comes with an extra set of target turrets and sun shade.

Thanks for the info Popcan. I have not had a chance to look through one yet how do the optics compare.

I bought this Nikon because I thought it compared very well to my Leupold Mark 4 MR/T in clarity and brightness (my Leupold is a 30mm tube 3x9-36 which is a great scope but I wanted more magnification for the savage), although there are shortcomings... only 50 moa of internal adjustment, and the turrets are not as nice... but for what intend, it should be just fine as long as the settings prove to be repeatable. That remains to be seen, but others seem to have had good success. I only want max 300yds for varmints, and max 500 for paper out of this one.

One of the biggest features for me on these is the side focus... you just can't underestimate the ability to adjust your focus so easily and with minimum body movement while laying prone in the field, whether on a paper target or a 4 legged target. Especially those wiley coyotes!

I don't know of any other decent quality scope that has side focus, true mildot reticle, and lifetime warranty for about 400 bucks CDN.

For 1/3rd the cost ....you just can't expect it to be a Swarovski or a Leitz .....
