Before and after pics of the Savage project:

a 12FVSS (stainless fluted HB model, now pillar bedded into a Boyd's pepper laminate stock, and non-shiny chemically blacked metal). Just need to order a set of TPS low rings for this scope.

He Who Shall Not Be Named in alberta did the work. (but his initals are Rick at ATRS):p

I was looking at the same stock for my 12 FV...

Did you have to get an import licence for the stock like the Boyd's web site suggested?

What kind of bedding did you have done? How does it feel? How does it shoot?

Has anyone seen the Richard's stocks? Which is better? The new "tack driver" model looks nice.

Looks like you could use lows and possibly a new base. Farrell bases sure are high:eek: ....on the other hand maybe you need to have the scope mounted this high. A nice Nightforce 5.5-22x56 would sit nicely with the barrel clearance shown.

On the positive side the Farrell base is stiffer then most.

... in the original post I did mention I wanted to get lower rings, and I have them in place now. Wouldn't mind a NF scope, but I'd put it on the Tiktac. ;)

for ZULU Mike, the metal is blacked by a chemical process. You'd have to ask someone else for the exact method etc.

To the woodchopper, since when is a .223 savage not a hunting rifle?

Yep Rick at -ALBERTA-TACTICAL-RIFLE- did my stainless in Black and did an outstanding job, highly recomend it if its the look your going for. I don't know the details of the process other than it takes alot of heat, gloves and burns through clothing. Give Rick a shout Im sure he would be happy to tell you what a miserable job it is to do and how the process works. Im on my way down to his place tomorow to Pick up the Wifes custom. Will post pics when I get back, It is an awsome looking rig in its own right. Ian Robertson Master class prone stock, Rem 700 action stainless steel, Ron Smith stainless barrel 29", custom built stainless muzzlebreak, Jewel Trigger, Leupold Mk4 6.5-20 with TMR rectical. TPS Rings, Warne Custom 20 MOA rail, Badger Bolt. Sweet rig with nice girl gun Gelcoat finish in a manly .300 win mag.

But...But...But... I'm supposed to get to fondle and drool over all your new rifles first! I was there when he unwrapped that ###y Dakota action (it damn near went missing) and I got to stroke and caress the rifle shortly before you got it.

IT'S NOT FAIR!!!

:D

I don't think it is a "coating" of any kind per se.... my understanding is that the chemical process changes the stainless.... but I am probably wrong.

Anyhow, call him and he will fill in the details. But stop mentioning his name on here... we might get banned!
