Savage Pump Resto

I have a model 1903 savage pump .22, this was my fathers first rifle and was stored in my grandpa's basement for nearly 40 years with no stock or clip. After a long search I have assembled the parts I need. My problem is the bluing!! The gun is basically bare metal and I am wondering some tips on bluing. Should I pay to have it hot blued or do it cold myself ( i would prefer to do it myself ). I don't want to build a pot and try hot bluing, I am wondering how much better the hot finish is?? Also can you get different shades, this rifle seems like it had a dull finish?? Any help would be great!! I will post pics but can't find the cam right now! Thanx all Scott
