I have a Savage Rascal that i have always wanted an adult stock for. I searched the forums and many other people want one too. I found a spare Mark II sporter stock on the EE a couple months ago and stuck it up in the rafters until I had time to mess with it. Having nothing going today I got to work on it. The first issue was that the stock holes are in a different location so had to remove material and drill a hole behind the trigger guard. Then a new hole had to be drilled through the metal insert in the stock. Luckily when i bought that spare stock it came with the screws too which actually worked perfectly. I had quite a bit of file work in the stock to make the peep sight fit too. So here you go the Savage Rascal in a Mark II stock

The internals

EDIT
I ended up getting bored so decided to do up another stock and added a 10x fixed banner scope just for fun. Not sure how it will shoot since my range is down.

I had thought to use a newer banner 4-12 but this scope is so much longer!

Just as good as a Rascal!

I benched it tonight at 25 yards and i can group within a half inch. I am going to add some weight to the forend which I think should tighten up my standing groups. Its a handy little rifle that points well.

How do you like the Rascal action compared to the Mark I/II? Other than the shorter bolt giving you an overall shorter package, does it cycle any faster/have any noticeable differences?

Not paying any attention to the freakishly long bolt that Savage uses on the Mark I and II shooting the Rascal is essentially the same. I have not had any failures loading or unloading the cartridges. I have really only shot LR out of it though and don't have any experience using shorts. I had a Mark II that had a fair amount of ejection problems depending on cartridge type. I no longer have the Mark II but dont recall there being a difference in bolt travel length if thats what your wondering. I did have a Stevens 300f at one time and the Rascal even in the Mark II stock is noticeably lighter but I added some weight to the forend for balance. Its a handy little rifle.

Neat! I have an older Lakefield Mk. II and 91T, and while their bolts aren't interchangeable, they're both quite a bit smaller than the bolts on my modern Savage Mk. II. I assume the bolt size (longer ejection port, second recoil lug, etc.) is so that they can make the bolt and receiver as close as possible to the Model 93 for ease of manufacture rather than any particular desire for over-engineering
