Hi all,
OK bear with me - I like to do my research!

I am looking at replacing my non-acctrigger in my Model 11 .308.

Lots of guys have recommended the Sharp Shooter Supply Competiton trigger (not the Evolution model). I am also considering the Timney and Rifle Basix Sav1.

The latter 2 appear to be similar to the exsiting trigger, but with better adjustment options.

The SSS has a listed max weight of only 2 lbs pull. In a hunting rifle I am happy with 3lbs as long as it is crisp and consistent.

My question is with the SSS - at max 2 lbs is it a safe hunting trigger? Is there enough sear engagement to keep it safe in the event of a hard knock or to prevent slam fires when working the bolt fast?

Its design strength appears to be that the trigger sear doen't contact the bolt sear (terminology?) directly but rather by way of an intervening lever that falls away where fired. This apparently puts less stress on the sear surfaces and I assume what makes the low pull weights safe?

Any experiences?

I don't have means to measure trigger pull for you but I do have a Timney and a new SSS trigger (will be fired this coming sunday) in savage rifles. Been dry firing it so I have a good idea of what I think of it. I would not have a problem with either of theses triggers in the field. Currenlty they are both set a little above their lightest settings and both pass the bump, slap, bang stock on the ground, etc tests.

I have the Rifle Basix Sav-2 trigger on a benchgun and down to 3 oz., but you can adjust up to a couple of pounds, very crisp, and i would recommend it over the accutrigger by a mile!!

If you want 3 lbs, why get the competition trigger? The SSS trigger I have in my Savage is safe and will not fire if you drop the rifle. Added point, the sear engagement is a separate component of the trigger setup and can be adjusted.

I've got a Sharpshooter set at under a pound on my .338 Edge. It easily passes slam, safety, and drop tests and puts my accu triggers to shame. They are certainly useable but aren't that great.
It took a little longer to set than most triggers I've worked with, but is as good as any and better than most.

Hi Grizz,

The name is confusing, IIRC the 'Competition Trigger' is the regular model, the 'Evolution' is the higher end trigger meant for bench guns etc.

Your right. I pulled the old package out and mine is called the "Competition" trigger. Its great on a hunting gun and will spoil you with its great trigger.

Good info guys.

I am always concerned with that stuff.

I tuned the factory trigger with a new spring etc buts its still terrible. Glad to know yours all pass the bump/slam tests. (not I think they would peddle a dangerous trigger!).
