Hello all, in the parts collecting side of a build and want some opinions, and ideally, pics of anything built in a similar fashion.

The Project
12" barrel prethreaded for savage, chambered in .300 Blackout. It is currently a full bull, likely to be turned down to a sendero/light palma contour and fluted
Savage 223 short action
Will be fit with stock accutrigger to start, may upgrade after.
Likely go with a fixed power glass with appropriate BDC if such animal exists

I am looking at keeping ths rig as lightish and short as possible to build a very packable truck/bush carbine that can be played with at moderate ranges.

Im mostly leaning to an MDT LSS with collapsible stock but would like some input as to other options. And as always. If anyone has built a similar beast, pics would be great. Haven't found many pics of the lss with tha short of a barrel setup.

Thanks
JC

Here my Savage short action in an LSS. It's got a 20" barrel (plus about an inch and a half for the brake) chambered in .260. Stock is a Magpul CTR, it used to be all black i just kylon'd it green. The barrel/action is Cerakoted. I like the LSS, its not the greatest for bench shooting but really nice if you need a compact/light package. This is as close to a do it all system i could come up with, its short and lightish for hunting in the bush but I can and have hit a 24" steel target at 1000 yards with it fairly reliably although 100-600 yards is where it shines.

I like the weight of the bare chassis and the fact that i don't have to pay for a stock +dbm + tume for me to inlet the dbm. 10 rnd AICS mags feed 300 BO well as far as I have read. I'd go light with as much of the build as I can. Realistically i wont be pushing it much past 300 yards. The ballistics get a golfball trajectory in short order

XLR makes a great chassis, and even some of the lightest. I opted for the Element as I'm not a big fan of tubular forend chassis. However, XLR's carbon chassis is one of the lightest full featured chassis on the market. It would be a great option to what you're looking for.

Anyways, here's mine.

Another lefty! Nice.

Here's my two, one is short action and the lefty is a long action.

They both shoot. I like the tac 21. Both are Chou builds with glued in receivers and all the goodies. They've both been upgraded with glades bolt handles and ergo grips since this photo was taken.

You have much more stock/bottom metal options if your action have the top bolt release.

IMO when Savage did the bottom bolt release, that was a bad move.

Agreed. My long action is bottom bolt release. It's becoming more popular and any good smith can inlet a stock for it. Mdt and it believe KRG make a chassis that works with bottom bolt release. There may be others now.

XLR makes stocks for bottom release savages...

I just don't get why they did this. Top bolt release works perfect.
