I used one at a range in Florida last month. Took it for a test driver, so to speak.

She was in .308, was fun to shoot and would probably make a great deer rifle. But she ejected her spent casings poorly. To the point that after each shot, when the bolt would be slid back to cycle the unload/load sequence, the spent casing needed to be pulled out by hand.

This may have to do with her being a range gun, and being used like a whore on navy pay day, but either way it was an annoying feature lol

We do have a Scout Rifle thread/ sticky on the go over at the Hunting rifles forum....

No doubt scout rifles are loads of fun. Now too bad that 16" M14/M305/M1A rifle is restricted. At least we have a pile of shorty M305's kicking around here! :)

Cheers,

Wanted to work up some 150gr pet loads for this 10fcm (7.62x39) and the 4x LER scope was too difficult to work with for that purpose. The forward scope mount and receiver rear sight were removed to make room for a conventional scope mounting. Found a rear sight base that matched the barrel diameter and put the ghost ring on it. It's a much better set-up all around, and with the accu-stock, it really taps into the accuracy potential of the x39.

The action is built for .308win so it's plenty strong for full-power loads with a variety of bullet weights and the generous mag opening allows for extra long cartridges. The magazines are steel and the flush fit is nice for carrying.

Almost sold it - glad I didn't
