Anyone have one?

Does it cycle reliably with non-A17 specialty ammo?Regular 17gr-20gr,does it work?

Personally don't like Savage's rotary magazine...Played with a B-mag with the same mag and wasn't impressed..Not a game changer,just something I keep in mind between an A17 or a CZ 455 stainless...

Want an accurate semi...I know the mag has alot to be desired....More concerned about it's ability to cycle properly without proprietary A17 ammo...

I've got an A17 Target sporter. I've had zero reliability issues with it, mostly shoot Hornady 17gr Vmax. With that ammo, it averaged 1.03" at 100 yards for five, 5 shot groups off a bipod. The 25 round magazines are a work of art, and shouldn't be compared to anything related to the 10/22. The company that owns Butler Creek owns Savage, so they went above and beyond with the aftermarket magazine. This rifle is an absolute hoot in the gopher patch.

I'm on my second one. Had the original when it first came out, and there was nothing wrong with it. Frickin' laser beam in the gopher field. Upgraded it for the HB/laminated thumbhole stock version when they came out and I love this rifle even more. Also a frickin' laser beam. Both have been rock solid reliable. They love the CCI A17 ammo...it is definitely a bit hotter, but I've had no issues with standard .17 HMR ammo either (which I have a fair bit of).

I've had pretty good luck with mine. It's not a jam o matic, but it isn't 100% reliable either. I "think" the A17 ammo is more reliable, and also believe the 25 round Butler Creek Mag is more reliable as well. Its certainly easier to load the 25 round mag. As for accuracy, despite the crappy trigger, the gun is very accurate at 100 yards with both A17 ammo and Hornady 17 grain. Its just devastating on gophers, the ones that are standing, the head and shoulders separate from the body and fly 10 feet in the air.

A17 ammo is what I was using.

I'm also surprised by the amount of love the Butler Creek mags are getting.. I bought 2 of them and if I slightly wiggle the mag back and forth or even side to side, it just falls right out.

Or maybe that's pointing to something wrong with the rifle itself.

The fit of the mag to the rifle is very precise and tight. Once mine is locked in, its solid. But it has to be pushed up tight into the rifle. Its not at all like the sloppy fit of a 10/22 mag. Maybe its too tight on some rifles and it doesn't properly lock in position on yours?

Must be the case.. the butler creeks are completely sloppy and fall right out when wiggled or any pressure it put on them. I've filled out the service form on savage's website, guess I'll see what they say. Fairly disappointing for a brand new rifle.
