Savage / Stevens 30-30

I shoot a Savage 340 in .30-30. It is very accurate and carries well. I shoot Hornady lever evolution ammo to good effect. Suggestion: look for an older one with a walnut stock (looks nice) make sure it is factory d and t for a peep. Mount a Williams peep (still made) and you will have a very nice truck you may hunt with more than you think.

I owned a Savage 340. Good little gun. Shot real well, better than my lever action. It would make a great quad or truck gun and you can still find cheap ammo at Walmart, under $20. I've seen some pretty good 340s for sale lately on the EE. Once this registry business goes south I think you will see lots of them available. My father in law has used that gun for many many years to harvest deer in Saskatchewan. Good luck.

I've had Savage 340's in .22 Hornet & 30-30 Win. and they were good,
honest huntin' guns that were easy to tune up for the job.
A good peep sight or proper scope set-up works wonders over the cheapy
factory sights. Follow with a trigger job and good bedding of the action and
you end up with a nice rifle, providing that the barrel is in primo condition
of course. :canadaFlag:

I was thinking of selling my model 94 and getting one of those Savage 340's. i'm guessing they're more accurate and less complicated to tear down
