Savage stock change, recoil lug size issue

Hey Guys,

I'm doing some "upgrades" to my Savage 11 Trophy Hunter XP. I have a new heavy barrel I'm putting onto the action next week, and just received a stock from a Savage 10 PC that I want to put it in. However it appears the recoil lug that is currently on my action is a touch bigger than the slot in the 10 PC stock. Whats the best way to deal with this problem?

Should I file down one side of either the slot on the stock or the recoil lug itself? Or is there a specific size recoil lug I should be using?

I find it strange that my Savage 11 would have a thicker recoil lug than a target/tactical model?

Grind out the stock with a dremal tool. Put 2 layers of tape on the bottom of the lug and one layer on the front(barrel) side the the lug and bed the lug into the stock.

The PC is a true accustock which has a Rem 700 looking lug to fit against the alum sides in the stock.

DO NOT cut the stock. Cut the lug to fit. There isn't enough material in the alum chassis to hollow out.

If you want to retain the lug lock, you will need to bed around everything leaving the space for that lock. It is a pain. Just finishing up a rifle for a shooter and when done, it all locks up rock solid.

I do not tape the recoil lug.

Thanks for the input Jerry, but I'm a bit confused. Are you referring to how far down(vertically) the lug sits? My fitment problem has to do with the width of the space the lug sits in, it will not even enter that channel. If I grind down the lug to fit width wise will I still run into a depth issue afterwards? Am I better off finding an appropriate fitting recoil lug?
