I have an extra 6mm br barrel for my Model12 but want to built another rifle with this barrel. I am told that savage actions are the way to go but would any action be good or do I need a specific action for the bull barrel?
You would need to look at the threading of another action to see if they match, or if the savage is larger and can be rethreaded on a lathe. Also, the barrel may need to have a notch made for the extractor on a different style of action.
Short answer: stay with a savage action for the barrel.
Savage has 2 barrel dimensions so you must make sure the action and barrel match, IIRC it is the WSM actions that have the larger diameter barrels but hopefully someone more familiar with the Savage brand can give you more specific information.

My understanding is that there are two types of Savage actions that require the larger barrel shank - the Precision Target Action series, and the WSM actions. Diameter of the large shank is 1 1/8", smaller (normal) shank size is 1 1/16". The vast majority of Savage rifles out there will be the smaller shank size.
Hope this helps!
(Edit: note that the shank is the end that screws into the action - a bull barrel could have either a small shank or a large shank, and if your barrel came from a Model 12, I'd suspect it would be the small shank.)
