I am looking for a new precision factory rifle and have narrowed it down to 2 rifles. The Remington 700p or the savage 10bat. Both are in .308 I am wondering if anyone owns one or both. I am looking for opinions on both the savage is more but comes free floated and properly blocked muzzle brake plus I hear their triggers are easier to adjust. I will be using it mainly for target shooting so the weight isn't an issue. Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

The muzzel break thing can be a bummer if you want to shoot F-Class. No breaks allowed.

Have you considered the Remington XCR Tactical. More $$$ that the 700P but arguably a better stock and nicer trigger. Mine breaks like glass.

The Savage trigger rocks too but I would try handling the 10bat. I just looked at it in the store but I found the cheek rest was flimsy and wobbled. Annoying.

I don't think either one is a precision target gun. I would look at any of the Savage guns that use their target action (single shot, 3 action screws), and Target AccuTrigger (adjusts down to 6 oz.).

Thanks Bolivar I will look into the XCR. I was under the impression that all rem's had the same new trigger.

The 40-X trigger is a step up from the X-Mark Pro that they are putting on most of their rifles now, as I understand it.

Yet another Savage vs Remington thread. What a shocker! Dude, this question comes up at least twice a week. There's literally more threads on this topic in this forum than any other subject matter. There's a wealth of information and comparative opinions on both platforms.

The search function is your friend.

BTW, you do realize that the Savage you mention is close to x2 the price of the 700P don't you? It's not really an apples to apples comparission here.

If my budget allowed for a BAS AND I wanted to compete, I would just build something that would work for the sport I wanted to play with.

Otherwise, pick a rifle and go have some fun. They all go bang and if you are working at it, all the holes land on the same page.

Don't forget Tikka. Their varminter model is one sweet shooting rig.

But yes, just scroll down the next few pages and you will see this topic with lots of discussion.

I have more info on my website and a few customer project rifles. Savage and Rems can be used to make wonderful rifles. Pros and cons to either platform. I like Savage
