Just wondering if anyone has experience with either the Savage 10 FLCP-K or the Tikka T3 HB Varmint both in .308 win.I,m a lefty so one reason for the model and was a previous owner of a Remington Model 700 VSF in .308 win with the HS precision stock and sold to upgrade.Any info or experience greatly appreciated.

Is this some kind of joke? Savage to a Tikka? Answer: Tikka. Without even a second thought. You're not upgrading over the Remington. A better comparison would be a lateral shift - at best. Neither of those (2) rifles has a stock that is equal to the HS Precision that you had on the Remington. The Tikka will arguably have a smoother action with a better finish quality than the Remington. The Savage, not so much.

The Remington was a fine rifle on THE BENCH but after that the problems started. It has no muzzle brake,no detachable mag,no oversized bolt etc. Also the rifle had problems feeding 168,180 gr factory and reload ammo.In addition I, ve had at least 2 model 700,s have remington moments when the safety is released. This rifle will be used for varminting in Manitoba in Jan,Feb in -30-40 celsius .Anyone with experience shooting either rifle

Ya they,re were a few of us left here after Roto II with 2VP.I,m the only one left THOUGH its quite the joke in the Regiment.Try to make it back for LNO and Rememberance day.Trying to price out a good quality varminter in .308 win left hand bolt for less than 2,000.Thanks for the assist.
A Westie in MB?

What do you want to know? of the two I personally like Tikka more. Owned many. Is it better? probably not by much.

I used to have a Savage 10FP in 308 in a prone laminate stock. It was great. Shot absolutely everything I fed it well. Trigger was nice; and I am a longtime fan of the accu-trigger pseudo-two stage design.

Then I bought a Tikka varmint. Suddenly, the bolt on the Savage became gritty and loud to cycle. The trigger became ho hum and the aesthetics turned displeasing. I puzzled over it for weeks, as I had done nothing at all to abuse the rifle, nary had it even left the safe. I sold it in my puzzlement, and I'm sure the new owner is quite pleased with it. Then I bought another Tikka, and another, and another. And then bought additional parts for them like a CG Universal trigger, a TRG trigger, and 'crappy plastic' mags. I'm having one rebarreled with a TRG barrel to see whether or not it's 'just' the barrel that makes the TRG shoot so well. Personally, I am sold on the Finns work and foresight with the Tikka design.

Savage makes a fantastic product, but it just doesn't hold a candle to Finnish workmanship.

I have owned a Savage 10BA and currently own the Tikka T3 Sporter. Both are $2000 rifles give or take. Both were chambered in 308. Both equipped with similar features. With the exception of having to buy a muzzle brake for the Tikka ($$$), they are in my opinion comparable. I sold the Savage and kept the Tikka! Hands down, the Tikka is the better rifle with an infinitely better (single set) trigger. The only rifle with an Accu-trigger that I like is my Canadian made .22LR MKII BTVSS. I also much prefer the smooth feeding and super durable single stack polymer mags on the Tikka. They just plain work.

If you've ever read The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance you'll understand why I am a huge fan of my Tikkas ... they just feel like quality. Savage, not so much. But that's not to say one will shoot better than the other.

I've never tasted Corn Flakes, but I have tasted Cheerios.

I think Cheerios taste better.

LOL so correct..

usually the case is... they will both outshoot the shooter... I own and shoot both savage and Tikka and they both shoot well and both fun to shoot.. however, those cheaper savage axis will need some work.

For what you are asking, go tikka. Not for it being a better shooter or anything along those lines but because you will get a high quality rifle that you will be pleased with for around $900-1000 before optics. Once you upgrade some of the components on a savage it will be almost every bit the rifle the tikka is, however you will still be at the same price once it is upgraded.

I own and shoot a few of each on a regular basis. If I want a high quality for value hunting/varmint rifle then I pick Tikka, If I want a rifle I can make a project and modify the heck out of it I pick a Savage/Remmy.

Its all about what you want to do.
