I am looking at getting one of those Savage 17hmr TRRs?..what is the difference between the Mark II and a M93R17 action? or is that one is for 17hmr and the other is for 22lr....I know nothing about Savage.

Thanx in advance.

Thanx guys..

Now to find a ..savage m93 17 hmr trr .I hope it shoots well..one of the nicest feeling rimfires I have picked up..anyone seen one other than in Ontario? a barrel swap to 22 mag wouldn't be that hard would it? are these actions quite reliable..I will be shooting over 1000 17HMR rounds this spring..like I say I am no Savage expert..

I believe the barrels are press fit. A no go on the barrel swap without serious machining.

I'm not sure that I have ever heard of a bad shooting 17HMR, darn near everyone sells one from the cheap Stevens all the way up to Coopers and Annies, all seem to shoot fairly well. Your savage should shoot well as well. FS

I have a M93 in synthetic stock, heavy barrel and fluted. By far my favorite long gun in my safe and i own 15+ guns. This thing is a tack driver and is great fun to shoot whether hunting or at the range. I have never shot a more accurate gun in the 300Yard and lower range. I take a dozen eggs to the range when I take it and at 100 yards it doesn't miss. Out hunting this thing drops coyote, groundhogs, crows you name it. Shot a coyote at 100 yards behind the shoulder, thing ran 20 yards and was dead cold. Could not recommend a better gun in my opinion for .17hmr, love the accu trigger.

First-off, you sound like you have a gopher problem so what you REALLY need is reinforcements from Ontario. And yes, I'm available. :)

Seriously though, I've spent allot of time behind Savage rifles, and have owned 2 of them in .17HMR. I didn't like shooting them NEARLY as much as I did my buddy's 9317TR this past summer. Basically, the same gun you're after minus the bug chunk of aluminum (=tri-rail) on top. MAN that thing was a laser, and pretty devastating on gophers out to 100+ yards. Much beyond that, it seemed even a mild wind got the better of that little 17gr. pill....but maybe I was the weak link! Anyhow, I'm inclined to say "for that money, look at a CZ Varmint model in that caliber" instead but in all honesty, I really liked the feel of the TR stock this past summer and I spent allot of time shooting prone with it. They're easy rifles to scope (no bolt clearance issues like some scope/CZ combos have) and I like both the chunky bolt handle and matte black finish of the TR.

On the off-chance you're NOT a gopher shooter, the attached photo may not be to your tastes...but...it's a scene from my last day in Alberta and includes the rifle in question. The TR scored a double! The one closest to the rifle was the intended target when the one in the foreground cozied up to it, behind. I let the shot go, and this was the result. Distance was approx. 90 yards.

And...to the actual questions you started with~answered already! Frontier Firearms and Prairie Gun Traders are both Savage dealers in Saskatchewan, I'd reach out to them first. It shouldn't be too difficult a rifle to find.
