Does anyone else get turned off by the Savage Edge/Axis an their pistol grip / tang / bolt shroud ergonomics ?

i've got my mates here as he typically gives it to me to Sight in from time to time when it gets dusted off from the Safe, his last few trips have been mixed and when with me last he shot straight over a Sambar Hinds back at 120-130m - so i checked POI for him.

Rifle felt light so weighed it next to my Marlin X7 an the Edge was 200grams lighter likely the scope differences.
i just cant get my eyes around the tannggggg

Your opinion on it?

Edited-
Cant be just the Scopes, ones a 308 and ones a 30-06.. so thats proberly a difference there.
scopes are x7 = vx2 3-9x50
edge = nikko strilin 3.5-10x40

How does it feel? How does it shoulder?

Im a fan of pistol grips, not all of them, but if done right. I know some folks like handling a traditional grip, I find that with my wrist angled forward it feels less natural, and when I can get my palm behind the grip my rear arm eats up the recoil more than my shoulder and its more pleasant to shoot things a few more rounds.

well Cody for me being a Left hand shooter of Right Action Bolts, having the Safety up on the top is quite handy for me, To be fair when pulling the Rifle into my shoulder, it feels actually pretty good...

the Grip on the forarm is not pretty but it would work well with gloves, or in the cold wet conditions!

the trigger really lets the Axis down- Compard to that Marlin of mine, you dont need much presure to set it off, whereas the Savage is 'lawyer proof' an needs a good press.

Its just the Standard Axis stocks, you see how it looks thin after the bolt shroud?? cant get myhead around that tho

huh, well Id send it on its way on the EE, lifes too short to be shooting guns you dont love.

Or buy a boyds, though shipping for you is likely a waste of money versus selling it for another for NZ.

Id say save some coin and pick up a higher end rifle.
