I was thinking the other day that now the government has changed, who should we petition to save the few remaining CNo7 Longbranch 22s that are still in Cadet stores? I have heard from a few different Cadet instructors that some are still floating around, waiting to get chopped up. Wouldn't it be great to get them released onto the market? Any ideas?

Well I don't know about other Cadet Corps, but we still use ours in BC. Vernon has fifty or so that get used every year. I imagine Chilliwack is in the same shape. We just had the weapons tech conduct the inspections for servicability.

true here in nb, met a cadet instructor, told me off the cuff they got them, soon to be turned in gone ( next yr or 2) he asked me if i wanted , if it was possible......one no.7? ........mmmmm hell yes!!
if i here more ill spread the word. just talkin stage no fer sure yet.

"...still in Cadet stores?..." Most of 'em have already been turned in and chopped. The Socialist F**ks ordered the chopping thousands of No. 4's, No. 7's and C1A1's. Talked to one Reg Force guy, twenty years ago, who told me he had seen Leopards being used to crush rifles at Borden. Mind you, that may have been Armoured guys playing.
"...asked me if i wanted, if it was possible..." It isn't. If he says he'll sell you one, it's stolen.

Not to mention the fact that they are inventoried quarterly, with a verification done by two people, and submitted signed by both parties. If the Cadet Corps doesn't use them, they are returned to the nearest support base. Ours are in really nice condition, and get fired several times a year.

Sunray: I can only comment on BC, but each Army Cadet Corps has at least 40 of them on issue, Aircadets much the same. I signed out another 4 from Vernon last spring to conduct a shoot, and thery had racks of them there. Chilliwack is the same.

The FN's left years ago, but the C No7's remain in large quantities.

We have no indoor range facilities, so spring and fall mostly.

I've done the quarterly verifications for a few units, they all had anywhere between 4 and 8 CNo7's and between 6 and 12 Daisy air rifles.

One day there is going to be a recall on teh CNo7's and if things stay the same they will get chopped / crushed.

We'll have to get ready for another letter writing campaign. Think of the tens of thousands that the Gov could be wasting by destroying these rifles. I really don't think we will have to worry about criminals getting their hands on single shot bolt action .22. They wont want them.

There must still be stockpiles of .303s (and ammo) in war stores for the Rangers? I've heard talk that with the new focus on the artic the rangers will be getting new gear. Maybe the .303s could be surplused through DCRA? Much like the civilian marksmanship program in the States.

If you think that will happen you are DREAMING. the crown would never allow that kind of liability to exist. They would be too concerned someone would fire a hot reload, blow up their face and sue for millions. Trust me - I have enough experience with the gov't to know I'm not far off...

No stockpiles...the CF has had to purchase replacement rifles in the last 8 years on the international markets. They bought mo4mk2s back around 98, and there was a purchase of Indian surplus no4s last year.
It would be nice to see the Cno7s go onto the open market. I currently have 2; one in the grease for show, and a beater for shooting.

From time to time I've seen the odd CNo7 available for sale. Asking $800.00(!).

Ah, the No7.... how I miss my rifle..... I could pit aces all day with that tank. When they issued my Squadron the Daisys, my marksmanship went to #### (by my standard) those airguns were made for toddlers.... not a 17 year old who stood at 6'1".

Hey! Another ex-cadet! Yeah, the old number 7's where great. Heavy like tank, shoot like laser beam. 5 round groups you could hide under a nickel! They where a great stepping stone to the FN's. Now there's a rifle I wish i could own:mad: Never fired a long arm I loved half so much..........
