Say if you don't have a reloading die for a caliber ...

What sort of a gun is this going to be for?

Why not have a custom die set made? You may also need forming dies to form cases in more than one step, depending on how much the brass is worked.

Robert Interesting Idea, I finally put mine on a CAD program to see it and this is what I got:

It would have a tiny bit more capacity than the 414 Super Mag. Starline sells that brass, but hardly anyone buys it. Meh.

Dimitri, Just wondering if there is enough shoulder to head space the case?

Wasn't there a member advertising a single shot on EE that used a 30-40 Krag case straightened out for a 40 cal bullet? Seems it was not so long ago.

Reliably no, actually you'd end up using the over all case length as your guide when head spacing. Like some do with straight walled cases. :)

I modelled the case first as you described, but the shoulder is very shallow and I do not think it would work well for a high pressure round..
This one will generate 50,000psi, and drive a .40 cal, 200gn bullet at 2500fps. I think the cartridge will be more accurate with more of a shoulder.

Here is the .40 NC Carbine
