SBE II question

Not sure how else to describe this better.....with the SBE II (synthetic) fully assembled, is it normal for the shotgun barrel/forend (unit) to slightly wiggle sideways?

I find that the fit is perfect yet there is some play i.e. if you grab the forend/bbl and attempt to twist either left or right. I would have thought that everything would be tight once the firearm has been properly assembled?

Heck, my Baikal MP-153 is much tighter with all components fully assembled

I just cleaned my brothers SBE11 and it is tight, my friends SBE is also tight. I know what you mean about the movement. I had a 11-87 that would wiggle left to right over 1/8" no matter how tight you tighten the end cap. Remington could not fix it so. The 11-87 shot to the right.

Thanks for the response. I understand from Benelli customer service (Stateside) that this is issue is inherent to SBE II.....not entirely convinced. Mentally kicking myself for failing to detect this prior to the purchase. In fact, the couple of M2 Field that I looked at did not exhibit any unwarranted "play" when I inspected those.

Should've picked up a sxs or o/u instead of talking myself into this diversity concept

Having talked to Benelli as well as my retailer, I now understand that the slight "play" is inherent to the SBE model design due to the fact that the bbl is integral and an extension, if you will, to the upper portion of the receiver.

In other words, that very small "movement" of bbl/forend unit will always be noticable on SBEs despite a proper assembly/fit with the cap tightened just right......this is deliberate design and won't compromise performance in any manner.

I mistakenly jumped to the conclusion that this was an apparent defect in case of my particular semi-auto

Mostly accustomed to sxs and o/u, I found it hard to accept the design (personal preference, I suppose) and thus switched over to a M2 Field as that kind of "movement" is absent due to it's bbl not being part of the receiver :)

Nothing beats a sxs or a o/u in the world of shotgunning :D

See, you could have put all that money you spent on the SBEII down on a fine double. What've you learned?:D

You said it! I almost had my mind made up to get a Cynergy Field instead (my days of "fine" doubles are kinda gone :( )........anyway, wanted to experience what the Benelli fad is all about :).....have very little exposure to semi-auto firearms, well, other than milsurp rifles :D

I just tried my SBEII and I really had to torque it to get it to move. It moved less then 1/32", just enough to see a space between the fore-end and barrel.

Once you get your Benelli in a muddy goose pit at -10C you'll never question the $ spent.

The amount of torque necessary to move the forend on the Benelli will move the forend on any shotgun a little.... even a Double.
I have an SBE and an SBE-II... no complaints.
