Good call on running a linear comp with that short barrel. I put a 3 prong flash hider on my 10.5" 300blk LPC for its first range visit and I only made it through ~20 rounds before I tapped out from the blast. A linear comp made it much more pleasant.

Yes, 5.56... almost brings back some memories. at least not all my parts are collecting dust and the ammo I will save having to cycle each round by hand. (silver linings)

Did you try sub-sonic rounds ?

How did the range visit go?
I haven't loaded any sub-sonics for the blackout yet, but I'll give them a try this summer. H110 and light 30 cal bullets are cheap and plentiful so I haven't tried anything else.

I put on a Ultradyne Athena linear comp in my 8.5” LPC that I put together the other week. Won’t be until at least July that I get some range time.

With a manual action, there is no need to use a slow powder like H110 for subsonics. Powders in the burning rate of H110 are only needed to cycle a semi-auto action and they will be much louder as a result.

For a manual action, fast pistol powders like Bullseye, N320 or Trailboss will produce subsonic velocities with way less noise.

A Noveske Flaming Pig would be even better, especially with fast burning pistol powders.

I'm using H110 for supersonics, not subs. 110gr vmaxes and the light sierra varminters
If I ever try subs I'll use something better suited for that.

I looked long and hard at the flaming pig, but they're too wide to fit under my handguard. I went with a TNA barrel shroud with linear comp. It doesn't add 3" to the length, and most of it is hidden under the HG.

Where did you get that? I've been looking for a compensator and barrel-mounted front sight combo and haven't been able to find anyone who stocks it in Canada.

Went to the range yesterday, rifle functioned flawlessly with nice flame. Accuracy was ok, hitting 10" gong at 100 and 200m.
