Does anyone have experience good or bad with the SBI mag inserts? I bought one and several promags and it doesn’t work worth a damn. Seems like the mag is rubbing on the underside of the bolt. I had high hopes for this being the saviour of my 10/22.

I did this early on when they first came out with the adapters, back when they were 3D printed. I had to adjust the adapter, and the mags to run, but even then there was not a real acceptable level of running them. The newer alum ones I have not tried.

I ended up selling that and going with the Tuff receivers from Dlask, as they have the added removed notch area to go with the HC3R mags. (25 round). SBI now makes these receivers as well. That said, there are guys that don't like them either, and they do have a bit of a learning curve, but they have been running better than the SBI adapters when I do use them.

The only difference is the extra extrusion on these mags that does not allow them to slide into a standard receiver, so the receiver has to be modified, (made that way) for them to fit.

What are the issues with the TUF receivers? I was thinking about going that route as well, as it seems like a better option than the inserts.

They are meant to fit extremely tight had the same issue in the beginning. Just keep cycling the bolt until it creates a flat surface on the top of the mag.

I’ve had and used all three versions they’ve released. I like the latest aluminum version the best but still use the 2nd gen 3D printed one from time to time. If you follow SBI’s recommendation on aligning the spring in the mag and break-in they work reliably enough.
