Scabbard, bayonet, Pattern 1907 - Care and maintenance?

Back in '05 I picked up some bayonets in Kabul at the weekly bazaar outside Camp Julien. Lately I've been wondering if I ought to treat the Pattern 1907 scabbard (for SMLE No.1)like a pair of combat boots, and brush-shine it with Kiwi polish. It seems like the best way to spruce it up.

Any thoughts?

Treat it with Renaissance Wax. Its what museums use to preserve swords, armour and scabbards. Lasts forever and stands up to handling.

"...picked up some bayonets in Kabul..." Most likely Afghan copies. No collector value, but lots of curiosity value. I wouldn't do anything to 'em. You have no idea what kind of leather Abdul used. You don't polish combat boots either.
RSM said he wants a word with you. snicker.

( I remember the Googoofoogles across the way using a heated-up soup spoon and trying to iron out the pebble-grain from their combats. Then spit-shined the ba$tards until they almost glowed in the dark. No idea why the lot of them didn't end up in DB... )

Now, to the OP... yes...Dubbin. Let it soak in for a week, then buff it off. Looks gooooood and smells purrrrdy.
