I have a Lee Classic Cast press now I need everything to complete the kit, does anyone have any recommendations for a good beam scale and a trimmer, I have some experience in reloading in the past I have reloaded 223 and 357 mag (many years ago).
I have an RCBS 5-10, and 10-10, my only complaint is my near vision isn't what it was. I'm always squinting at it now. As for trimmer, I have a Lyman and a Lee quick trim for 223. The Lyman does anything I have the pilot (30-06. 308. 9mm, 40 S&W, etc.) for and I do a lot of trimming of 223 so I use the Lee for that.
I use an RCBS 5-0-5 balance beam and have been happy with it. The Lee is very accurate but VERY finnicky to the point that many cannot get consistent results with it and dismiss it as junk. However it is slower and much more tedious to use. I only recommend it for those on a VERY tight budge. The mid range RCBS beam balances (made by Ohaus) are a nice step up in overall quality and ease of use. They are far less tedious and ultimately faster to use. Good balances for the money IMO, easy to learn on and good enough that many never bother with upgrading to something better. For trimmers, Lee has the cheapest with their mandrel trimmers and the quick trim. I keep the mandrel trimmers for when I have to remove a lot of brass such as 1 fired and FL sized 556 brass which is often waaay over max 223 trim length. The quick trim isn't as good for removing a lot of brass, the mandrel trimmers are great for that task with a hand drill. The quick trim chamfers inside and outside while it trims which is handy.
