Hey peeps. As the title says, was this rifle ever available in canada? I understand the RCMP believe this to be a weapon of mass destruction and therefor made it prohibited (due to trigger group or some crap like that), however I'm pretty sure I've seen a used one for sale on some other website.

And in case your wondering, it was not the ISSC plinker that I saw for sale.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

we should see if a dealer will try to get scar sent in for reclassification.
there was some talk about how the version that was tested by RCMP was not a civilian scar but a modified auto one, or something like that. It could be nonsense and rumors but I would to get my hands on one.

Anything of the sort you see for sale in Canada at the moment is a scam, period.

No it was classified as a converted auto;

The version the RCMP got WAS the "Civilian SCAR" rifle. However when they got a full auto rifle to test parts between, the full auto trigger pack dropped right into the semi-auto gun and it went full auto... I don't think even the RCMP expected this, but alas the serialized part was essentially identical to the full auto Military version, so that's the decision they reached.

The parts to MAKE the rifle go full auto are impossible to get for anybody but military and LEO, but that doesn't matter to the RCMP.

I don't think a rifle has EVER been re-classified to something friendlier, so I wouldn't hold my breath! Besides, we are getting the non-restricted ACR's in pretty soon (or get one re-classified with a new barrel), and the XCR's for half of what the SCAR's were going for!

Yeah, I heard the SCAR is nothing revolutionary, just another AR-18 clone with rails everywhere and 2x the mass at 4x the price.

That said, would still be nice to have a few in country.

T97's. First they were non restricted. Then prohibited. Now non restricted again.

I heard the Scar Heavy (.308) was considered a very good 'battle rifle'
MAC from military arms channel and iraq veteran from YouTube , speak highly of it. But I guess it's just two men's opinion.

That's an entirely new gun from the 2 that were originally classified as prohib.

They had to make an entirely new receiver specifically for the Canadian market, and good luck getting FN to even bother with Canada in that regard!

According to an FN rep at SHOT (as reported here on CGN) - FNH has never sent the RCMP a semi auto SCAR for testing. The guns that were sent, came from a movie prop company, and god only knows what was done to them.

As above the gun that was sent was not a civy gun. As such a civy one should be sent and tested as FN says they are totally different and will not accept each others parts.

Why didn't Questar send a semi in for FRT?

Why did some very random movie, prop guy pop up?

SCAR import attempt was strange.

I suspect there is another attempt for a FRT as we speak. But with all the under cutting I suspect no importer will admit to attempting it again.

Also well I am at it.
Why do these major manufacters even deal with R.Nicholas or who ever imports HK and FN
why as civilian shooters, are we not trying to get these top manufacters into a distributor that even cares about the civilian market?
How much has R.Nicholas or to be honest any of the big distributors back east that seem to write there own restrictive rules when it comes to the civilian market, done in the way of lobbying the government in regards to classifications or supporting the Orgs.?

maybe the Orgs. could chime in.

Yes, Questar had sent in the Semi-auto model quite a few years back. The reason things took so long, is that FN wouldn't release specific information about the differences in full auto and semi-auto guns without the RCMP signing a NDA, but the RCMP wouldn't do that because of freedom of information requests....

The movie prop company guy purchased a semi-auto model and a full auto Mil. Spec. model and sent them both in IIRC (to settle things once and for all), the RCMP then compared Quastars sample with the movie company samples and 'supposedly' it went rock and roll.

Now with that said, who actually KNOWS what the RCMP did. They may have just assumed the 2 'semi' samples were identical, or the movie gun could have been a 'police' semi-auto gun (not a civilian gun) that was able to accept full auto parts, and the semi-auto IS indeed different. BUT questar would have likely rattled the cage about it in that case.

From what Questar had said, they were not approving any more export permits for FN Scar rifles, and I kinda doubt anybody really wants to waste time and money importing another one just to "see" if the RCMP will change their mind. Really sucks :(
