scar light

Technically restricted. However, not a single one exists in private hands in Canada. Don't hold your breath for them either. The only way they're getting into the country is through Belgium, and AFAIK we would likely be required to import them from FN USA. Problem..? You bet. US State Dept. sure isn't going to approve their export anytime soon. Not to mention, it'll likely be difficult getting one from R. Nichols the Canadian FN distributor anyhow. Numerous obstacles...

We've been collectively flogging this dead horse of a SCAR rifle for over 3 years now...

It all depends on the barrel length, if its is 18.5 inches or longer it will be non restricted. Let us hope Belgium makes some so we can get our hands on them. But man that is one ugly rifle.

2009 Q1 to "preferred dealers" in the US. Even if permit could be issued, no one in Canada will see a single one til Q3.

SCAR Light or Heavy. If anyone comes in and is Non-Restricted, I'll buy one...

I'm not entirely enthusiastic about take-down design though. It was built for ski-team guys out in the field of extended periods of time. Why have a system that requires taking off trigger/grip unit and stock to do regular maintenance.......

...but, having said that....I'm sure it's pretty amazing.

I want the heavy more than the light due the fact there are quite a few 223 non restricted blacks rifles but no black 308's yet and I would enjoy hunting with a black rifle which I cannot do with a 223.

Rules change from province to province.
No minimum size in BC, although it is not a good plan to take the big mainland deer with a .22 cal bullet.
The small island deer (~75 pounds) would be fine with a .223.

The thing is, people are stupid. With out minimum caliber restrictions you'd have bubbas out there trying to shoot moose with a .223 rifle.

good buddy of mine downed a 150kg red stag with a .223 at 250 odd meters .. moose is a fair bit larger but the right shot at the right places and it shouldnt be too much trouble... in saying that, i do understand where you're coming from and with animals such as the moose and probably bears in some areas of canada ? i can see how a minimum calibre restriction is a good idea

Hello,

I shot one of those in the state last week in full and semi, it was OK but I was not impressed, still I like my LMT over the FN, It shoot great but too bulky, specially the stock.

Even in the US , it will be only available to Law enforcment or Military.(That what told me the rep)
